Nathan, awesome video. Really a great help and all-round presentation for SASS + Compass newbies like myself. Thanks for sharing. Really hope that you have the time and generosity of sharing some tips and tricks of less known SASS + Compass capabilities.

Thanks Bruno! I definitely plan on creating some more in-depth screencasts soon.

I've been using Sass & Compass for a few years now, and I still feel like I learn something new every day.

Quality production, concise explanations, clear voice and a little nudge for indented Sass syntax. Couldn't be more pleased. I need to have a friend rethink the way he uses Sass and this is exactly what I needed.
  • Nathan Henderson 8 months ago
an early version of the presentation was tilted very heavily towards the indented syntax, but I changed it so as not to scare away too many new users ;)

The interesting thing is I steered clear of Sass until Scss came out! Now that I'm comfortable with it, dropping the curly braces & semi-colons seems like the inevitable next step… :)

And that's why I think it's smart of Sass promoters to emphasize the optional nature of the indented syntax. I use to be frustrated at the lack of opinionated "you should use this because it makes sense damnit!" but I've come around since it clearly works better at attracting people and making them understand the advantages of Sass as a whole progressively. Features first, syntax later.

    agreed 100%

The Less vs. Sass fanboyism doesn't help anyone either. I'm glad to see the two projects learning from each other.

Of course, we have Compass, so clearly we win ;)

Really -really- well done. Nothing new for me but still a joy to watch and a good-to-know reference for friends and colleagues. :)

I'd love to more in-depth screencasts for sure! Thank you for your hard work Nathan! :)

What sort of tools do you use for the video production? It is so very good. :) And the content, too! Can I hire you please?
  • Nathan Henderson 8 months ago
Thanks Paul, I'm glad you liked it! I'm seriously overwhelmed by all the positive feedback.

For this vid, all the slides and animation were created with Keynote. Audio was recorded, cleaned-up and edited with Soundtrack Pro, then run through Levelator. Final screen capture & editing were done using Telestream ScreenFlow.

A huge chunk of the production time is actually spent writing & editing the script -- apparently, making it look off-the-cuff and effortless takes lots of effort!

As for work, I'm always interested in a new project. My email is linked at nathos.com Hit me up :)

Very well done. I'm going to be introducing my co-workers to SASS/Compass soon and this will be the first thing I have them watch.

    Thanks Tony!

Very nicely done. One suggestion: mention Susy grid - it's great. :-)
  • Nathan Henderson 7 months ago
Thanks! I'm probably going to do a video dedicated just to the various grid system tools in Compass (plenty to choose from these days!).
