Japan has always been on the forefront of cutting edge robotics. Its roots can be traced back 200-300 years during the Edo period when skilled craftsmen created automata (self-operating machines). Using nothing more than pulleys and weights they were able to make the Karakuri (Japanese automata) perform amazing tasks.
Japans modern day robots can be traced back to the Karakuri. Today Hideki Higashino is one of the few remaining craftsmen who is determined to keep the history and tradition of Japanese Karakuri alive.

Good work mathew. What s the audio system u ve used for this? Wireless ryt?
  • Matthew Allard plus 8 months ago
Hi Amila. Yes I used radio mics.
  • Amila C. Kumarasinghe 8 months ago
Hay mathew. Yeah radio mics. can you let me knw the brand and model number? because i'm gna guy one for me.

    Thanx . .
  • Matthew Allard plus 6 months ago
Hi Amilia, the radio mics were Sennheiser's. I don't recommend them though. I recommend Electrosonics radio mics but they are a lot more expensive.

Wow really amazing work. Reminds me of when i was younger i i used to wonder why they couldn't just make machines completely mechanical instead of all the electronics. I really love this stuff.

I was amazed and grateful that you've shown me something wonderful about this world, rich blues ... It is a great testimony to the noble mind and exquisite art depicting a world that teaches people from their silence and pay their respects ... When someone like Hideki dream big, the world has more hope that the man was saved from his crazy ...!!

this is very nice, i love the music and the images. but i would prefer subtitles. Will you make a subbed version too?
  • Matthew Allard plus 8 months ago
There are too many tight shots for subtitles, they would end up covering too many of the shots.
  • jumi 8 months ago
ah too bad, or a version without english? :) I'm loving the music and images too much.

I shared your video on my blog jumijumi.com :)

Amazing work. I agree the voice over on voice over distracts from the imagery. Maybe go for a japanese english speaking voice which would fit better. But subtitles would be good if using safe black letter box area below.

I do not find the voice over uncomfortable at all, I actually think it gave me sort of a glimpse of the production country of origin and that I was looking at something created from an outsider's point of view... I know few people gets this kind of clues from details like that, but well... I guess this is a matter of what social group you're trying to reach... Though my guess is that the average population will still prefer voice over since it's easier than reading, and some sectors (stupid and sad but true) may not like foreign accent ...

  • Jeremy Raynier 3 months ago
And you sound just like anyone may sound... not like those programed trained unrealistic sounding professionals who may give this a more scientific documentary style... you made this perfect for touristic or cultural application, since most people can identify themselves with your type of narration/translation.
