Process:
Cinema 4D - I made this mostly relying on the Mograph plugin.
I used 3 different sound effectors placed on 3 different Cloner objects.
The original render which wasn't actually HD (I rendered it at half res then scaled it up in AE) took like 65 hours on a q6600 desktop. The updated version probably took half that on my quad core Macbook Pro.
