For the past couple of years, here in the North of England, our winters have been mild and wet, similar to our summers in fact. But this winter looks like being much more like proper winters should be, very cold and occasionally very beautiful. These clips were all shot last weekend with the strange mists covering miles as far as the eye could see on Saturday, and heavy frosts sparkling beautifully in the Sunday morning sun.

The HD7 performed brilliantly as did the Glidetrack

Although eventually my hands stopped working due to not being able to find my gloves before I left the house!

JVC HD7, Glidetrack, FCP6. No colour correction. Music is Ketil Bjørnstad from 'The Rainbow Sessions'

Utterly stunning as ever Wayne. Your stuff to me shows a crossover between still and moving images that pretty much sums up where photo/video are merging. Glorious!

    Cheers Alastair! much appreciated mate.

What can I say? As Alastair has already said, it is absolutely stunning. The weekend was a good short spell of unusually cold weather which is pretty rare now, so you did well to take advantage!! The colours in the mist shots are beautiful. I am very envious! Life near the sea is so boring!! Glorius work.
  • Wayne Avanson plus 1 year ago
Cheers Geoff, much appreciated. It's almost tempting to leave the camera in the car every time you go out just so you are prepared in case you come across some brilliant light or clouds or something.

S'alright, if you like that kinda thing. :)

Really nice, Avey, the beginning shots had this look as though they used a multiplane camera (like some of the old Disney animations), so that Glidetrack's certainly worth its weight in gold. And the shot around 2:30 is simply stunning (and those pastel colours! — no, I'm not gay). I admire you for getting up so damned early, but it's paid off, cos this is really very nice, indeed.
  • Wayne Avanson plus 1 year ago
Cheers Greg, though I have to admit to not getting up early at all… I wish I had got up though because I missed a couple of cracking shots that were pretty much melted by the time I got back there. Yeah the Glidetrack is ace, especially the tilt and track, love it. Overdone it a bit but never mind, all part of the learning process I guess. I like the pastel mists shots too, amazing fog. We live on a hill and were stuck up out of the fog like an island. Pretty cool!

very very beautiful and moving. one can almost hear the crunch and crack of the cold cold snow and some of the violet natural coloring looks like something Freddie Young could have shot.
  • Wayne Avanson plus 1 year ago
It did have that kind of feel when I was there. Very still and crisp. Cheers Gerald!

I like this even better than your autumn video. The soft colors are beautiful.
  • Wayne Avanson plus 1 year ago
Cheers John, much appreciated. This sort of thing is better without the lens adapter I think.

    Nice work!

Why does the video stutter every second during pans? Is that due to some sort of pull down?
  • Wayne Avanson plus 1 year ago
It's something to do with how Vimeo recodes the file to Flash Video to show it. Doesn't cope with slow pans tilts and tracks very well. I don't know how to get round it. Maybe someone does and I'll find out one day. You could download the original file to have a better look at it if you like.

    Cheers SB!

Yeah, I know what you mean, me too when I watch it. I think it's the combination of the music with the pictures that makes it so peaceful.

These are some of the most beautifully shot images I have ever seen. So perfect looking they are almost unreal. The clarity is stunning. (I'm Canadian but my dad was born in England so this is a little treat :)
  • Wayne Avanson plus 1 year ago
Wow, Colleen, much appreciated. I suspect you get great weather to shoot over there in Canada. Here, scenes like these happen rarely so you have to get out there quick to capture it!

This video confirms that I got the right camera! I really look forward to exploring the HD7's possibilities!
I have Corel VideoStudio Pro x2 for editing.. I'm sure it's not as diverse as FCP.. but I've heard good things about it, and it edits .tod files natively.
  • Wayne Avanson plus 11 months ago
Thanks William, yup, for the price you got the right camera. The things you can do if you're careful setting it up are amazing. I haven't used the Video studio but I'm sure it makes a pretty good team with the HD7.

You can find lots of helpful info about the camera here

Keep up the good work yourself man,

  • Wayne Avanson plus 8 months ago
You're right there Chris, beautiful it was. Not often we get anything other than grey winters here so I just HAD to get out there and capture it. I wish I'd had my 5D2 at the time though!

i'm about to get myself a glidetrack - if i needed any convincing, then your vid got me! absolutley beautiful textures & colours - good stuff!
  • Wayne Avanson plus 2 months ago
Hey Thanks Rhys, much appreciated mate!

Yes indeed, of all the kit I've bought over the past year or so, the Glidetrack is the best and most fun to use. You instantly get such classy, pro looking dolly results. Well worth the dosh. Alastair's really helpful too, he'll sort you out with any help you might need.

    Cheers for watching
