If we are going to stipulate that one must go and fight a war to legitimately support it....why not take it a step further: One must be a police officer to have a view on matters of criminal law; one must be a scientist to hold a view on global warming; one must be a biologist to have a view on whether or not abortion is murder.....you know what, let's go even further: Only truly devoted citizens should have the right to vote, those that have the well-being of the State in mind, therefore voting will be a right only granted to those who have served the government in one way or another....and only those who have had an education in Political Science.
Putting conditions and qualification requirements on view points and expressions of them is not exactly a free-thinking democratic idea. Nice try though.
FYI: I support the war and I just contracted a comissioning route with the Army.
I applaud your bravery, but I don't agree with your argument. If we are going to fight wars, we need a draft. It isn't the regular army that's getting slaughtered, it's the reserves, the weekend warriors, the people enticed into battle for a little extra money for college.
All people, not just Republicans, have the luxury of stupid opinions because they know they'll never have to pay for them.
Draft everybody. This war will be over in two weeks.
John doe, your logic seems sound, but there's one key point you seem to be missing; a soldier's job is different from that of a biologist or politician because we don't send biologists to kill or die in order to prevent global warming. We don't send politicians into battle; that's the key. Even the most dangerous occupation on your list, police officers, don't suffer the kind of physical and mental stress that a soldier does; they aren't asked to spend years away from their families in a foreign land where they can be shot at or bombed at any moment. That's why people get angry at those who seem to have a cavalier attitude towards the lives of our troops. They seem to have no qualms about sending other people to possibly die for any possible reason, while they sit comfortably at home, making no real sacrifice at all. I don't believe anyone is saying you have to serve to have any opinion on war, in fact this scenario probably wouldn't work because soldiers are less able to voice dissent than, say, a biologist. In the military, if a commanding officer gives an order, you follow it. You don't ask why, you don't make an alternative suggestion. This is necessary in order for the military to run smoothly. So who is left to stand up and question authority? Those of us at home. It's not a matter of, "be anti-war or sign up..." The point is we should exercise restraint when endangering the lives of our military personnel. Private citizens who choose not to serve have a responsibility to the troops to ensure we send them only when it's absolutely necessary, only when it's for a good reason. Thus far, the reasons for the Iraqi invasion haven't been satisfactory, nor is wisdom of continuing their presence in Iraq. If we don't hold the reasons for war up for scrutiny and hold our leaders accountable for the life and death decisions that rest in their hands, in my opinion, it's a slap in the face to those who protect our right to do so.
I think it is silly you think we send Marines to Iraq to die. We don't. We send them to kill really bad people. And they are killing a lot of really bad people, so far about 60,000 of them. Not just Iraqis either, but Saudis, and Kuwaitis, and Syirans and a lot of really bad people who wouldn't be living peacefully, but trying to figure out other ways to acheive "martyrdom."
And going into the military isn't hell. Football camp is a lot harder. Yes you can get shot, but you can also get horribly maimed driving in your car to work. It is not a death sentence. It really isn't that bad.
And I really do think this new generation coming up are pussies. I think you are overblowing the casualty rates greatly just because you want to be the next Bob Dylan (or should I say Captain Planet), and you have had it pounded into your head that marching for peace, along with saving the whales and recycling is so great.
Heck, I could see why they did it in Vietnam. Those people really thought the communism was the way to go. But keeping Saddam Hussein in power was the best thing for us? You are totally insane. Do you have any idea what we had to do to just get weapon inspections into his country? Or how about the terrorists he sponsored, including al-Qaeda, and what he said about 9/11?
And no, we do not need a draft. If we needed a draft, we would have had one already.
I can't believe you would compare fighting on the front lines of an armed conflict to training at a SPORTS CAMP. I'd find it silly if it weren't so deeply offensive to the people of our military.
Are you being serious? Surely this must be satire!
Melyssa, I don't believe john doe's logic is flawed. You would be right if we were sending biologists off to fight the wars, but we are not. People who join the military do so of their own volition, knowing full well that they may be putting their lives in danger. That is part of their job, and they know it. When you say that biologists aren't sent off to war for months at a time away from their families, you are correct. But you are mistaken in the fact that biologists never signed up for that activity; soldiers willfully do. It is undoubtably a tremendous strain and hardship for the soldiers and their families, one that we should all be grateful for. I think you will find, though, that most soldiers are up to the task, and more than committed to the reasons that we are over there. This is evidenced by the above average re-enlistment rates recently.
I agree that there are many less than intelligent college republicans, and the CRNC convention isn't where one would go to find thought out arguments and sound logic. But I would venture a guess that, although supported by no evidence, Max left some footage on the cutting room floor. There are many college republicans who do end up joining the military.
One great thing about this clip-the kid who comes out of the closet at the end. Hilarious.
First, thanks for responding without personal attacks or calling me insane. I appreciate that! Your argument in the opening line seems to reinforce rather than refute my statement that John Doe's equating of a biologist and a soldier is incorrect; putting that aside for a moment, I'll address your other point. You are correct that soldiers sign up with an understanding they may see battle. You seem to be misunderstanding me though; I'm not advocating the idea that no soldier should ever have to see combat under any circumstances. That's unrealistic. There are certainly circumstances where military action is the only choice. However, we should be careful about when we use our military. A simple, "well, they signed up for it..." doesn't cut it for me. Just because they signed up to defend our country doesn't give us or our political leaders the right to be reckless with their lives and to do whatever they please. We owe our military better than that, even more so because they are willing volunteers.
I couldn't agree with you more that we cannot be reckless with soldiers lives, and I definitely don't take the attitude "they signed up for it". I suppose our fundamental disagreement comes with the questions "Was it the right thing to invade Iraq?" and "Should we still be in Iraq?" Most people, at the time of the invasion, said yes to the first question, which is how we find ourselves there. If it had not been a noble and worthwhile endeavor in the eyes of the majority of the country, then we would not be there today. Now, I'm sure we could get into a large scale debate about whether or not the reasons for going to Iraq ended up being correct, but that's another discussion. The answer to the second question, in my opinion, is also yes.
Obviously the war has been incredibly mismanaged, and things have been going horribly. I don't see this as a good reason to leave, however, as not one person familiar with the conditions has suggested this would be a good course of action. Even most democrat presidential candidates agree that to leave at once would be the wrong decision, which is why they are proposing a phased withdrawal, rather than an outright withdrawal. For us to leave immediately would be to leave an already chaotic country in only more chaos and bloodshed.
So when you say that we should be careful when using our military force and putting our soldiers in harms way, I completely agree. But most Americans, at some point, agreed that it was a worthwhile war, and a last course of action.
OK, let me preface by saying I'm not condemning anyone or trying to be a jerk. Having said that, I want to understand from someone who supported the Iraq War why they supported it. I'd be interested to hear from anyone, whether they've since changed their position or not. I'm trying to understand, not to attack anyone.
Jesus! How old are you guys? I am talking about this "John doe" And that strange non English literate "Death B4Dishonor" who obviously ain't no way near the front and still beating him self on his chest ,gawgling out some hateful and pretty macho stuff and still be so grammatically misfitted that one has to wonder if he did clear high school (even though I guess that he is from around the middle east according to his spelling mistakes..LOL!).
And finally..Zack. oh why oh why Zack do you involve your self with these elements and then ...try to protect their insane insinuations? Or do you really believe that most of them citizens of USA really did agree "at some point???" that the Iraq war was a "worthwhile war?" which planet do you come from son?? How many ordinary Americans did in fact "VOTE" for that war? Please amuse us all by giving us those fact sheets? Or better yet, ask Diebold for ballots. oh, right, they do not believe in that kind of constitutionally necessary stuff.
And finally Zack, please try to follow the news. it has been going on for a long time now but you call it "Re-enlistment" Let me quote a line of yours...
"This is evidenced by the above average re-enlistment rates recently"
It ain't no re-enlistment Zacky. Haven't you heard? The pentagon has prolonged the tour of duty from 12 months to 15 months. THAT is no re_enlistment just as factually as the pentagons more shameful report that desertion is higher then ever amongst those on the field. Sure there were 580 something soldiers who re-enlisted for yet another stint to mark July 4th, and 160 of them were those who had been given a chance to become American citizens...IF they would enlist and thus show their loyalties, Come on now, are we living in the midle ages? Enlist and show me that you are ready to die for our country or look in them heavens for a green card that will never come. By the way, if you come from the Caribbeans you might be given this chance. but if you are lucky and come from Europe you can win a green card in that yearly lottery. But watch and behold, never before has there been so few from other industrialized Nations NOT participating in that lottery to become American citizens since...since Bush took power. I wonder why? Is it just intelligence?
DethB4dizzhonor: If we needed a draft, we'd have one already? WTF? If there were WMDs we would have found them by now. This war is built on bullshit and lies. Nobody is paying attention because they THINK THEY DON"T HAVE TO PAY THE BILL.
Bush said we're fighting the war to avoid 'the smoking gun being a mushroom cloud' but he's pretty much assured that eventuality through his arrogant disregard of international law.
Stop playing 'Splinter Cell' and smell the steaming pile of shit that's been heaped on all of us. Or maybe you'll get it when this cabal of traitors cancels the '08 elections with a bullshit terror threat and installs themselves as the imperialists the truly are.
Liberal Rebel,
You accuse me of not reading the news or doing my homework. I think you need to start reading the news and paying attention, rather than slanging innacuracies wherever you may. Most people, and by most I mean a clear and solid majority, did support this war from the start. I have even included a link, or the "fact sheet" that you requested, to establish this so that you can, as you say, "follow the news".
What you are referring to is call "stop/loss", and these are not included, because they are not reenlistments, but rather extensions. Reenlistment rates are up. I don't believe for a second that it is because of large bonuses, as some say, or because, as has been suggested here, that officers insult the grunts by saying that they "won't cut it in civilian life and will end up getting ass raped in prison". Are you honestly going to tell me that all of these soldiers are against the war, but re-enlist anyways and put themselves in danger because of a $14,000 bonus or because an officer hurt their feelings? I have also included a few links to show you that re-enlistments are indeed up. One of them is an opinion column, but if you scroll down, it shows the re-enlistment percentages. The articles are a few months old, but not over a year old. You will get the idea. I hope this helps to clear up your ignorance on the matter.
I like an "opt out" draft. Conduct a draft, and anyone who is willing to state that they oppose the US participation in the conflict they're being drafted for gets posted to serve in one of the many stateside positions that are currently being filled by contractors - base security, stateside medical staff, etc.
This is brilliant - Are you selling the bumper sticker, sign me up. These Republican College Students are shams. OK for someone else to be cannon fodder. Disgraceful! Paula Hannah, Erie, PA
I think more than anything you went from making a good investigative journalistic piece (despite using inbred American citizens with low IQ who clearly know zip about the questions you asked them) to something that was on the same level as their childishness (with your karate kid act).
That whole "dance" at the end was really weird and just made you look like the pillock. If anything it worked against this piece of work...
You went from provoking a reaction by means of filming to being removed from a presentation because you were acting the twit.
P.S. Go look up the word pillock, it has a really great meaning and history behind the phrase.
Agreed. It was very effective until the end, until the dancing. It's like the street performers who show up to protest nearly everything (billionaires for Bush), who add nothing to the debate and only exist to provide mockery.
Also, I wonder what College Democrats would do to a Republican muckracker who tried to do the same thing. I would guess the response would be much worse, somewhat akin to the response that conservative commentators get when they visit college campuses. I'm thinking of the pies thrown at Coulter and Buchanan, and the violence at Columbia University recently. I don't think that being escorted from the premises for disrupting an event is an indictment of the organization.
Hey Max. These Trez Hermanos looking dudes over here (above me in fact) are calling you a "penis". Well, actually it was "Vong utan fjong" (Look up that word Vong, it to has a great history) who started it by in fact calling you a Penis. Then the "Ben lille lem" totally agreed that your dance was bad and soon after him came "Zack full av skit-snack" and tagged along. But hey, I will clear this up for ya. Pillock is originally from a Norwegian word called "Pillikock" and it doesnt mean dick head but "kock peeling" now that THAt is cleared why don't "alla ni kuk huvuden" go and sign on for a tour?
It's actually more of an old British slang for calling someone a twit or a fool. And it isn't just calling someone a penis - it is a small penis.
No idea about the Norweigan for "Vong utan fjong"! But I'd be interested... because the nearest I know of the word with fjor - in it is fjortis which is a girl that is a bit cheap/gives it away easily.
God I love languages.
P.S. There is no capital p - in penis... as important a capital as you may consider it! ;)
Weren't that Fulton Lewis thee fifth or only the forth?
That girl was trying to be, like, all political and stuff.
Let me see if I can make my voice real deep so I
can defer answering about my future deferment.
In typical Repuglican style, "john doe" believes holding people up against their own IGNORANCE is a waste bandwidth. Beg to differ, NOT in the case of College Repuglicans, who act as Judge, Jury, and Executioner in every facet of their inept Political Ideology... Great Video Courage!!!
Cool video, I still can’t believe how dumb these people are, they are like robots. They just keep repeating "fight them there, so we don’t have to here" that’s the most idiotic thing i ever heard.
Fantastic. We had a choice about fighting them over there. We have to stop exploiting their natural resources and basing our soldiers in their countries to avoid fighting them over here.
SUVs and grande latte enemas all around. These people won't get how wrong they are, ever. Liberals and independents have to grow some balls and stand up. Videos and blogs are nice, but why isn't anyone in the street protesting this stuff?
"Grow some balls" by protesting in the street? Great, so traffic gets jammed up, police get overtime pay, the FBI has a fun time colecting random tidbits about nobodies for their files and everyone ends up at "that chick with the flowery halter top"'s house for an all night hookah party.
Sounds about as productive as Live Earth and less entertaining.
I'm sorry that you'll be inconvenienced by the traffic, but it's a bigger bummer to be killed for bullshit. What's the alternative? Sit around with your finger up your ass?
BTW, the FBI is already collecting useless tidbits on all of us.
I agree that Live Earth was and exercise in idol worship and futility, but protest and direct action ended the Viet Nam war, and will do that with this one as well.
May you should grow some balls, quit complaining and join us on the street.
Zack should Google "War Diary" and watch the video where the NCOs are telling the grunts that they won't cut it in civilian life and they'll just end up in prison getting ass raped. That's how they're getting people to reenlist.
America is morally bankrupt. Whether it stays that way is completely up to us.
Yeah man. Not only should he be doing that but the whole lot of these sand bagging their heads down the hole kind of guys that only knows how to refute through half blinding testosterone filled clouds. I have always said that when entering the ring one must clear ones inner self from all disturbing feelings thus enable a rooted schedule of techniques already attached to the fullest within ones own spinal core to take over and enable the defeat of ones enemy. Now THAT is something one wished those Brats in this clip had. But unfortunately they will never grow something even resembling courage. Could you see one of them inside a ring?
the saddest thing about these junior repugnicans is not their convenient cowardice, it's their uncanny ability to parrot, if inarticulately, the misinformed position of their elders: that we're fighting them there instead of here. there was previously no "there." funny that guy outing himself though...
Good one Max, really kicks ass. Awkwardly amazing that they all basically were saying the same lines with bravado then shrinking just a tad backing into well here's their repeating excuse for NO BALLS, no eloquence, no mind, posers one and all. Blinding blind faith.
"Everyone has a role" and those who don't have the money or resources to go to college have a role - cannon fodder. Thank you for exposing the hypocrisy. If we had a draft, these same young people would be AWOL or shopping for deferments - just like their role models, Bush and Cheney.
I don't think their hypocrisy was necessarily exposed. I am finishing up a doctoratel this year (undergrad supported by a scholarship, grad supported by fellowship) and have no inclination to join the armed forces. However, I were to be drafted, I wouldn't be doing a dance, but I would go serve my country. Obviously, I can't speak for everyone in the video, but I doubt that they would necessarily be dodgers.
Trust most of us Ben, their hypocrisy was NECESSARILY Indeed exposed..Very much so...UTTERLY exposed..yep. You could probably even be blind and still be blended by seeing it coming. ROFLMAO!
Some things never change. We saw the same crap in the 70's. Republicans love to wrap themselves in the flag and talk about some cause that everybody should be willing to die for--so long as that means everybody other than them and their kids. And DeLay? Does he ever think what those 3500 kids that he helped kill for no reason at all other than chickenhawk macho could have done for our society? Nah. Just a bunch of poor kids--no fortunate sons there.
I am a 54-year-old lawyer and FORMER Republican who left the party in 2005. I also regrettably voted for our idiot child president Bush the Lesser in both 2000 and 2004. Oh my god do I regret that! The video was wonderful, exposing the hypocrisy of all those larval Republicans. In one of the ironies of politics, it is a Republican candidate for president--Ron Paul--who IF elected would be the politician most likely to get us the hell out of the Iraq now. Go check out the grassroots Ron Paul Revolution at ronpaul2008.com/. Most of his supporters are people in their 20s who are sick of the same ol' same ol' in United States politics.
We could turn this country 180 degrees by February 2008 with a Paul/Gravel administration. Which is why neither has a chance to even get out of the starting blocks.
I think Ron Paul is a longshot also. But if you want to e-mail me directly to dcbennettlawoffice@yahoo.com, I can send you information from a statistician who will explain that Dr. Paul's support may be at least up to 10%. Since he is an unknown, and only declared in March--that isn't bad. I have not followed Gravel's campaign. We called the grassroots movement for Ron Paul the Ron Paul Revolution.
Great job, Max! I knew these clones of Dinesh were hypocrites, but your video makes it painfully obvious just how empty-headed these neo-cons really are. Of, course, they really DON'T believe in the Iraq "war" or else they would sign up. It's amusing to watch them swell with anxiety in an attempt to defend their own cowardice.
john doe's line of reasoning has some serious problems - comparing biologists and politicians (or even cops) with soldiers in Baghdad? (We're all very impressed to know he might not have to be a grunt!) Thanks to Melyssa for an intelligent reply!
I agree with Farquad Arnot, a draft would certainly end the war quickly. But I also like Phil Martin's idea of an "opt-out" draft. If a military action is ever truly necessary there would be no shortage of volunteers. Most level-headed Americans already know this "war" is a scam!
Farquad Arnot is exactly right - we need to be flooding the streets with 500,000 angry Americans in each of the following cities: San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, and in front of 1600 Pennsylvania!
To "Death B4Dishonor" - we are killing thousands of very GOOD people and forcing more than 2 million Iraqis from their homes. You're telling us war is no worse than football camp? Geez, what camp did YOU attend? Have you discussed that hallucination with those who have returned from Iraq without appendages?
This is simply outrageous, stupid and insulting to all patriotic DEMOCRATS!!!!!!!!!! Does this mean that soldiers who are serving are Bush supporters or are happy to be involved in Iraq?! That's stupid! Do you have to be in the military in order to support the war? That's just as stupid! I have served in the military and I'm totally against this war!! If you are against the war but believe that soldiers=supporters then you are by definition anti soldiers. Be careful of the game you're playing here. Soldiers are by definition ONE thing only; PATRIOTIC! They are willing to do a great service for their country and put their lives at home on hold in order to do it. They ALWAYS, without pause or exception, deserve our respect. Do NOT EVER allow a republican to or anyone else to claim that you are not supporting our troops because you want the war over. Instead you should claim that THEY are the ones not supporting the troops because they are putting the soldiers in harms way needlessly and with NO clear mission or possibility of a victory. Don't ever let someone put words in the mouths of the soldiers. NEVER let someone say that being Republican means being patriotic and therefore means supporting the troops, implying that Democrats are neither patriotic nor support our troops. We are represented in the military just as much as Republicans and want this mistake to end unlike the Republicans!
That is how you support the troops.
This video is completely anti-Democrats and people should think first instead of having a knee jerk reaction.
Huhm? I do not get it. the rambling you just did above, I read it twice and still it seems like, I dunno. strange. could you please go through it all again and a bit more moderate? Just so that it gets more structurally visible and easier to understand? Is it anti_Democrats or do you mean Anti-Democratic (which in the right linguistically structured term should then be "undemocratic video" or something like that. And by the way, How can it be that exposing a pile of overly spoiled brats screaming for a continuation of a war into which they seem to never want to participate but are willing to sit by the sideline and watch and gore at be something more against Democrats? That was clearly the Republican youth org holding on this one wouldn't you say? Or is it just us getting you back ward? Pund not intended, (he he he)
It is almost as if this was fake. Like these were actors playing parts. This is not far off from the fictitious elitist fraternity in animal house. “thank you sir may I have another one !” Could of swore I seen Mandy Pepperidge and Todd say were fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here. Lastly, as far as Mr. I’m not gay; got some news for ya bud my gaydar was blinking before ya even uttered a word. ( not that there’s any thing wrong with that ) Can you say future Log Cabin Republican. Lastly, I find these freaks scarier than anything you can find in an inner city ghetto at 3am. Bush=war criminal
I have an older brother in law who retired from the military as a Warrent Officer III (a Vietnam vet), after 22 years of service. While he does not share all of my non-interventionist values, he has come to believe that the Iraq war is a total disaster! I am not going to get into a screaming match with death B4 dishonor. We did a good thing getting rid of Saddam. But we made every possible mistake that could have been made both in the invasion, and in the aftermath. If you really want to get the straight story on that, go to PBS.org, and go to the Frontline episode, Iraq--The Lost Year."
Even if we would have gotten/killed Osama bin Laden during the Afghanistan invasion, it would not have destroyed the Al Qaeda terrorist organization, but it would've been nice to have got thr SOB! While you're at PBS.org, check out the Frontline episode, "The Dark Side." It will show you how Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld botched our getting Osama bin Laden at Tora Bora, in their hurry to get assets over to attack Iraq. It really is quite infuriating! The episode also shows how Bush was somewhat 'duped' regarding the existence of WMD in Iraq.
But even if he was initially 'duped' that DOES NOT excuse his refusal to get us out of that quagmire! Ron Paul would march us out of Iraq, just like we marched in. Is there going to be turmoil and bloodshed once we eventually do leave? Without a doubt. Is Al Qaeda going to have a safe place in Iraq from which to attack us? That stupid delusion just annoys the crap out of me! The Shiites and Kurds, who comprise 80% of the population in Iraq, hate Al Qaeda. In the last several months we have been providing weapons and other supplies to Sunnis who've gotten fed up with Al Qaeda and want to kill them because of Al Qaeda's abuses. Just where is Al Qaeda going to hide? Thus ends the lesson!
If you want to really end the war then institute THE DRAFT. No exclusions/exemptions. No deferral for college pussys. No deferral if you're married. Unlewss you are officially considered disabled (by Social Security Disability standards) then you serve.
When these chickenhawk fairies are forced to go, just watch their mommies and daddiies cry to Congress to stop the war. As a Vietnam vet these hyproctical girly men make me sick. prove that you love this country and fight the war where the war is taking place. Cowards. I'm a student, wah wah wah.
To Death B4Dishonor, you are a total ass. I played football in high school and college and the worst, the very worst, most awful day in football camp was a walk in the park compared to even a 15 minute firefight when I was in Vietnam. No one bled to death in my arms in any football camp I attended. I didn't see anyone blown in half by a booby trap. There were no the screams of the wounded and dying. No smell of death.
Get real asshole and stop watching war movies. You have NO idea what you're talking about.
Reinstitute the draft. No deferments for any reason; if you can walk, you can hump a ruck and rifle. No gender based MOS restrictions. Blond haired, blue eyed Buffy from our affluent suburbs can hump a ruck and a rifle in an infatry squad just as easily as some black or brown kid from the projects.
Yes! See my "Beware the Chickenhawks" originally posted on Google Video 2/19/07. Impeach President Chickenhawk, Vice Dick, and the neoCONloons for lying US into Chickenhawk WAR! The real question has become: who will be the last to die for the Iraq lie!
Thanx,
Eddie Arredondo video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2071607156148004082 network.a28.org/video
Thank you. That was terrific. Please keep it up!
I want that Draft College Republicans sticker for my car! ---Where can I get one?
I also think that the dancing at the end took away from the video. These guys were idiots enough as it was, a dignified forced exit would have had much more impact.
I have an open question for everyone. Since over 90% of the population supported the war in Afghanistan (including the Pope), are the people who did not volunteer for that war also chickenhawks? If that is the case, then I supposed that 90% of Americans are indeed chickenhawks, including Max (assuming he supported the war, which is likely), his father Sidney, and the man whom his father worked for, President Clinton. I suppose I'm not making an argument either way, I just think that maybe this term is only being used because it fits Max's purpose, and is a great talking point for the anti-war movement.
These kids are sad. Just goes to show, fear-based brainwashing works sometimes.
Good work, Max. I'm surprised you got as far as you did. Nice bumper sticker. I saw one yesterday that was similar but more market-based -- "DRAFT SUV OWNERS."
that wasn't interpretative dance folks, it was for the most part, simply Tai Chi.
but i do agree that it was not a productive way to end his day there.
Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid. Actually, go to the nearest Church and bitch-slap the parents responsible for these silverspooned Mornons.. Beware! Chicken-Hawk Extraordinair.
Oh my oh my, First of all, DAMN GREAT JOB MAX, as you can see, most people intelligent enough and with cohones big enough are stating what any with a somewhat IQ would state. That is how the truth about cowards are exposed. All other in here who are trying to slightly and slimly angle this as some sort of "not every one who doesn't dress up in uniform and a dangerous weapon in their hands but still supports.." and so on and so on are just feeling the same insecurity so visibly shun in those "reindeer caught in the headlights" eyes of these little brats you so brilliantly exposed on this one. The fact is that when people beat them selves on their chests and scream for blood, they are almost in 99% not those who in the end will be facing the danger in trying to do what those priorly "sounding so tough ones" wishes for. So to all of you who are in here trying to either protect the weak spinal cords of those brats in this clip or trying to show courage in slamming Max's brilliance, I tell to you, wanna show support and beat your self on the chest? Sign up and head of to the front and stop mumbling on a site for Gods sake, Be a man! Show what you are made of..or just go back to your "Mickey Mouse club Bla bla bla blaaaa!"
That one gushing Republican got to meet Bush! Wow, what an honor and a thrill. LOL. These people are pathetic beyond description. I really think this "worshipping" mentality of people raised in fundamentalist religious families is a serious problem. Fertile soil for Fascism.
Those who recommend reinstating the draft are on the money. This administration has framed this war as an immense struggle for Western values and security. If it truly is such an important matter of survival for our way of life, then EVERYONE in this country from 18 to 60 should be compelled to sacrifice by serving in some capacity in Iraq (and Iran when the time comes). The fact that most of us are permitted, nay even encouraged, to live our comfortable lives and continue performing our most important role of being CONSUMERS gives face to the lie. The republicans will NEVER permit a draft (and neither will the current crop of cowardly democrats) - but I can almost guarantee that doing so will bring this war to an end, and pretty quickly.
Also, that stupid line about "fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here" - this is the same bullshit line that was chanted over and over during Vietnam. The closest that claim ever got to being true is the proliferation of Vietnamese restaurants in many large cities over the past 40 years.
The more I watch this the more I feel the need to puke.
These young Repukican are nothing more than a bunch of cowards. Support your sons and daughters to get killed, while they stay at home and live the good life.
"I'M ONLY EIGHTEEN/I GOT A RUPTURED SPLEEN/ AND I ALWAYS CARRY A PURSE./I GOT EYES LIKE A BAT AND MY FEET ARE FLAT/AND MY ASTHMA'S GETTIN' WORSE./THINK OF MY CAREER/MY SWEETHEART DEAR/AND MY POOR OLD INVALID AUNT/BESIDES I AIN'T NO FOOL/I'M GOIN' TO SCHOOL/ AND I'M WORKIN' IN A DEE-FENSE PLANT." Someone's gotta go over there and that someone isn't me. Every time I ask a supporter of the war about their enlistment plans, I get one of this documentary's same handful of explanations: It's not for me; I think I can do more for my country in "other ways"; I'm in/want to go to school; I have a family; and various debilitating injuries and medical conditions (rarely obvious-- or even detectable to my admittedly untrained eye.) Note all the hands-to-the-face tells, foot shuffling, and voice pitch changes in this video when one of these turkeys is asked if they will volunteer. They know what they're made of and it shames them. What's more of a shame is, after another few decades--just long enough so that enough people forget or abstract the ugly business of war--this guilt will fuel the cheerleading for yet another miserable folly. By the way, how gay WAS that kid? (Not that there's anything...)
Permit me to suggest the following films:
"America:Freedom to Fascism";
"Zeitgeist the Movie";
"The Money Masters";
"Orwell Rolls in his Grave";
"Iraq for Sale"; and anything you can dig up on "BlackWater".
BTW, Hussein hated AL Qaeda, and Osama, never sponsored them EVER and the FBI never filed
formal charges against BIN LADEN for ANYTHING.
wheres your video on the men and women like me, who have served in iraq and afghanistan, and support the war, and why do you need to have served in the first place to have a view point. The same should go for you. How can you be against the were if you havent been there in the first place
> wheres your video on the men and
> women like me, who have served in
> iraq and afghanistan, and support the war, . . .
As a veteran, I'm happy to address that question. First of all, we get more than enough of that here at home. When giving speeches on TV to promote the war, George Bush routinely surrounds himself with soldiers. On cue, they obligingly clap their hands and nod in assent, giving the appearance that they support the war. Back during the war in Vietnam, if you opened your mouth in opposition to ANYTHING the government promoted, your ass was grass, and your C.O. had the lawnmower. If you tried something like that on TV during a presidential photo-op you'd get 10 to 20 in the stockade. There's no reason to think it's any different now. I'd be willing to let Mr. Stuckey express his opinion on a video, but only if soldiers against the war were allowed to do the same without reprisal. Mr. Stuckey knows they wouldn't.
Mr. Stucky then asks:
> . . . and why do you need to have served in the
> first place to have a view point. The same should
> go for you. How can you be against the were (sic)
> if you havent been there in the first place . .
Mr. Stuckey shoots himself in both feet with the same round. On the one hand he says one doesn't need to have served to have a viewpoint about the war. That's great news for chickenhawks, but then he does a one-eighty and says those against the war can't know what they're talking about unless they've served in Iraq. Mr. Stuckey wants it both ways.
I know vets like Mr. Stuckey. They suffer under the delusion that because they've been in combat they have unique insights that endow them with uncommon wisdom. They repeatedly insist that "if you haven't been there, you can't know . . ." That's bunk! One of my buddies, an RTO who survived more than his fair share of firefights says it best: "The only thing a combat veteran knows that others can't is what it's like to get shot at." That's hardly useful for enabling anyone to speak knowledgeably about politics - or anything else.
hey sherlock, if you would read my comment. you would know that i said IF a college republican cant have an opinion, then why should you. I think everyone should be able to express their views. Therefore, if you say those who havent served cant have views on if they support the war, then you cant either.
Well, Jody old bean, that might have been what you "said," but it sure ain't what you wrote. Next time, you might want to lock that keyboard before you load!
I must say I really enjoyed the clip from Max, and reading all the postings to date has been thought provoking. Many intelligent points of view have been provided.
I believe that the maker of the video and all who have responded to it support the troops, but it is apparent that there is a division on exactly how that is best accomplished. I for one am on the side of “the best way to support our troops is to bring our fine, courageous men and women home”, and to never use the best our country has to offer to further the political agenda of our elitist elected officials. As an aside, this is not only what’s best for our troops, it is what is best for this country. The “fight them over there, so we don’t have to fight them over here” mantra wasn’t true with communism and it sure ain’t true when applied in the “global war on terrorism”.
How appropriate was it that Max picked the old CCR tune “Fortunate Son” to close out his video? Harkens back to the days of the war in Vietnam, but then so many other parallels exists between this war and the one our country engaged in over thirty years ago.
Those who do not study the past are bound to repeat past failures. Those of us alive and aware in the 60’s and 70’s can see the hypocrisy in our government repeating itself. Cuts right to the meat of the issue ... war is great ... as long as it is 'over-there' and I don't have to fight in it.

Putting conditions and qualification requirements on view points and expressions of them is not exactly a free-thinking democratic idea. Nice try though.
FYI: I support the war and I just contracted a comissioning route with the Army.
All people, not just Republicans, have the luxury of stupid opinions because they know they'll never have to pay for them.
Draft everybody. This war will be over in two weeks.
Are you being serious? Surely this must be satire!
Hilarious.
Bush said we're fighting the war to avoid 'the smoking gun being a mushroom cloud' but he's pretty much assured that eventuality through his arrogant disregard of international law.
Stop playing 'Splinter Cell' and smell the steaming pile of shit that's been heaped on all of us. Or maybe you'll get it when this cabal of traitors cancels the '08 elections with a bullshit terror threat and installs themselves as the imperialists the truly are.
You accuse me of not reading the news or doing my homework. I think you need to start reading the news and paying attention, rather than slanging innacuracies wherever you may. Most people, and by most I mean a clear and solid majority, did support this war from the start. I have even included a link, or the "fact sheet" that you requested, to establish this so that you can, as you say, "follow the news".
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_popular_opinion_on_invasion_of_Iraq

No idea about the Norweigan for "Vong utan fjong"! But I'd be interested... because the nearest I know of the word with fjor - in it is fjortis which is a girl that is a bit cheap/gives it away easily.
God I love languages.
P.S. There is no capital p - in penis... as important a capital as you may consider it! ;)
That girl was trying to be, like, all political and stuff.
Let me see if I can make my voice real deep so I
can defer answering about my future deferment.
Vong gets all put out about it.
SUVs and grande latte enemas all around. These people won't get how wrong they are, ever. Liberals and independents have to grow some balls and stand up. Videos and blogs are nice, but why isn't anyone in the street protesting this stuff?
We'll get what we get until we make it different.
Sounds about as productive as Live Earth and less entertaining.
Yay for Max!
We called the grassroots movement for Ron Paul the Ron Paul Revolution.
john doe's line of reasoning has some serious problems - comparing biologists and politicians (or even cops) with soldiers in Baghdad?
That is how you support the troops.
This video is completely anti-Democrats and people should think first instead of having a knee jerk reaction.

I want that Draft College Republicans sticker for my car! ---Where can I get one?
I also think that the dancing at the end took away from the video. These guys were idiots enough as it was, a dignified forced exit would have had much more impact.
Good work, Max. I'm surprised you got as far as you did. Nice bumper sticker. I saw one yesterday that was similar but more market-based -- "DRAFT SUV OWNERS."

but i do agree that it was not a productive way to end his day there.
Also, that stupid line about "fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here" - this is the same bullshit line that was chanted over and over during Vietnam. The closest that claim ever got to being true is the proliferation of Vietnamese restaurants in many large cities over the past 40 years.
