Rewritten: A Delightfully Dark Fairy Tale
What started as nothing more than a spark of an idea by an Indiana University film student, Rewritten: A Delightfully Dark Fairy Tale has evolved into one of the most ambitious and FANTASTICAL feature films ever to be produced in Bloomington, Indiana.
The story begins with the return of ex-assassin Jack the Giant Killer for one last team mission to find his lost love Alice and leave the assassin business for good.
N’ovation Productions, a STUDENT-RUN and SELF-FUNDED organization, has brought over 40 of Bloomington, Indiana’s most talented and creative forces together to produce a film that does not only entertain but also promotes Diversity, Creativity, & Community. Throughout the process N'ovation has reached out to the community of Bloomington to utilize the many wonderful resources available along with featuring the town's beautiful and unique locations.
Rewritten takes the moral lessons imbedded within everyone’s favorite Fairy Tales and gives them a modernized and relevant twist. Greedy Drug Lords, Corrupt Politicians, Fabulous All-Knowing Narrators, and an Axe-Wielding Mafioso verify these are not your grandparent’s fairy tales.
Our team unites a production powerhouse from executive producer/writer/director Gesumino A. Rulli to cinematographer Edward Wu to producers Samantha Gurnick, Sophia Parkison, and Chelsey McKrill to sound engineer Joseph Toth.
Fusing Together Community, Creativity, & Diversity
Rewritten not only aims to provide an opportunity for advanced film students and performers at Indiana University and in the Bloomington area to work on a professional level project, but the film ALSO aims to bring the Bloomington community closer together.
This film worked with over 12 major Bloomington area locations including, but not limited to, the Old Jail Art Center, Root Cellar @FarmBloomington, Atlas Bar, Serendipity Martini Bar, and Bloom Apartments Leasing Office.
Along with utilizing the fantastic Bloomington locations, we also collaborated with local talents such as musician Ash Vega, local martial artists such as fight coordinator Tom Greenwood and members of the IU Hapkido Club, along with local actors from the IU Theatre Department and community.
Through modernizing these classic fairy tale characters, we have developed a fresh visual aesthetic to draw out the rich and complicated relationships from these newly-adapted characters. The team of Rewritten has combined the talents of a diverse cast and crew in order to bring this story to life.
What We Need & What You Get
We have completed filming and now need YOUR HELP in Post-Production in order to finish the film.
During this process sound design, special effects, along with twenty minutes worth of Animation will be added into the film. Local animators and sound engineers require both TIME and Money to complete these additions.
We need your help to cover these additional production and audio post-production costs. Anything beyond our goal will be used to enter Rewritten in festivals around the world!
Help us to continue promoting Bloomington's wonderful resources by helping us to finish this film. Whether you can give $1 or $1,000,000, any donation will help to put the finishing touches on this Collaborative Community Project.
It has been a joy to meet and collaborate with the beautiful Bloomington community. We appreciate all of the support and encouragement and with your support, we look forward to sharing our work in August.
Thank you and may we all live happily ever after!
