When we think of the Kelp Forest we usually think of all the really big critters and the Giant Kelp (Macrosystis). But the kelp forests can be a nursery for the younglings too.

They will usually be found in the top 15 feet of the water column, where safety can be found in numbers.

The most amazing part of this video is it was taken on a dive were the visibility was less than 18 inches! We were trying to do research diving, counting fish, invertebrates, algae, but were unable to do so. The first team reported less than 2 meters visibility so I thought I would take the camera and see if I could get some footage of lobsters for another project. Well, I hit the bottom before I knew it was there. On the safety stop, the water cleared up and just as my buddy headed to the boat I encountered all of these little beauties.
