A most excellent work. The psychological undertones are depicted in stunning fashion. The comedy beats, while dark, are awesome too. Bravo.

    great storytelling!
did you draw on live footage?
    mostlyhandmadethings.com/a-family-portrait-by-joseph-pierce
  • Joseph Pierce plus 8 months ago
Yes Nicola! It was shot, printed out, drawn over and scanned back in. I have a stack of about 3000 drawings left over, which I try to give away.

    Thanks for posting! x
  • Nicola Smanio plus 8 months ago
fantastic! I thought you painted them digitally, but this makes your work even more amazing! (scanning them must have been a nightmare..)
would love to get one of those drawings ;)
  • Jeroen Roodnat 8 months ago
Yeah! Do you sent out those drawings? I want one :-)
  • Joseph Pierce plus 8 months ago
If you personal message your address I could certainly see what I can do! I am quite disorganised though.
  • I would love to own some of your artwork as well. The flexibility of the facial emotions is really quite stunning! Great short, by the way, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

By the way, the fluidity of the the photographer's movement stood in a great, subtle contrast to the family's. I don't know if I'm imagining things or if it was intentional, but I liked it.

I love it. All too real sometimes. That slow progression of annoyances really comes through in those moments where the facial expressions change. Posted to my blog, This 'n That: tandtfy.blogspot.com/

Thanks for posting Chris, and getting behind Stand Up too. It feels a bit neglected.

Wow! I am really impressed this. Love the way it was drawn how it was made and especially the concept and how it can mean so many things to so many people. Definitely the type of stuff I want to see more of. So you just drew every single movement and put it all together?(Apologies im not clued up on drawings etc)

Think I also seen someone mention you trying to give away drawings? Is this possible if we live in Scotland :)

    Brilliant work keep it up!

It's really scary though! While watching it I had this strange sensation as if all characters featured in the animation were suffering of the same kind of inner illness which affects their behaviour depending on the individual level of self consciousness. You achieved it to create a strong impression of the animated reality being the very consistent only one. It's so real I felt trapped into it for a moment.

    I shared it @ thenewfilmmaker.com/.
  • Joseph Pierce plus 8 months ago
Hi Maja, that's some really thoughtful words, you've made me think alot about my new short and how to improve it, thanks!
