ricochet and renoise running on a monome 128. what you see is entirely unrehearsed. as a generative instrument, ricochet never quite repeats itself.
ricochet 0.2 (post.monome.org/comments.php?DiscussionID=11957) is a generative midi sequencer. renoise 2.7 (renoise.com) provides all the sounds. i originally wanted to have percussion and a melodic instrument playing at the same time in renoise, each assigned to a different "wall" of the monome, on different midi channels.
i couldn't make this work in renoise, so i created a single instrument in the editor and assigned percussion samples to various key zones on top of the piano sounds. reverb and delay effects, synced to ricochet's beat clock via wineasio, were controlled by the faders on the nanokontrol.
after assigning individual notes for each edge button on the monome, i added some initial tokens in the ricochet window offscreen, then pushed play. you'll see the monome go blank momentarily, as i place more tokens offscreen and add them to the mix. solitary notes transform into chord sequences as the tokens ricochet off the walls and each other. man-machine collaboration: success.
