On May 21, 2011 I documented this extremely photogenic supercell in northeast Kansas. In the first part of the video, the wall cloud and funnel(s) were directly over downtown Topeka and I was convinced that they were about to take a direct hit. Luckily, the storm did not produce a tornado until it was northeast of town. This tornado was brief and I didn't see it due to having to go out of the way to find a road to cross the Kansas River. After the sun set, the Tempest Tours group and I dropped south and documented a storm that had developed near Emporia and dropped an EF-3 tornado in the town of Reading where it destroyed over 20 houses. The final shot is of that storm approaching and blacking out the horizon.
Shot with the Canon 5D Mark II and 17-40 f/4L wide angle lens.
