what happened with the red scarlet 8x fixed lens why didn't they release it on 3rd Nov ?
  • Ambig plus 2 months ago
3k seemed to defy RED's ethic of 4k and beyond Future Proofing. I bought the Scarlet X and am very happy with it.

Thanks for your response Ambig, why did Red take so much time to admit it ?

Cool, that you're happy with your Scarlet X, would be cool if you could post videos of it :D

@ SanJohn It's not about taking them long to admit something. It's the other way round:

The scarlet just got better and better over time and all the development took much longer than originally intended. Meanwhile the world has moved on to bigger sensors in cameras. So they had the feeling that they had to do the same. Plus the idea of RED being a manufacturer of pro-tools only didn't really fit well with 2/3rds and 3K in their eyes. Thus the "staying true to the 4K" plan now.

As Jim Jannard said "DSMC means digital stills and motion camera. Stills need to be higher resolution than 3K. So does motion.
What seemed like a good idea 3 years ago is not a good idea now nor will it be a good idea going forward.
Additionally, a 2/3" sensor is not big enough.
The world has moved past small sensors and low resolution."
