Modern Melody is a diptych video piece looking at the types of modern sounds that make up the soundscapes of our cities. This is showed through the use of multiple screens, through the use of switches and toggles that are reminiscent of a DJ turntable set up.
The left screen acts as a visualizer, which is directly affected by the interaction interactions viewed on the right. When the hands turn on the switches, this triggers a new sound that adds to the soundtrack, but also adds to the city visualization on the left. The elements all move in time to the sound they produce, in order to show the origin of the sounds.
This visualizer is made up of various buildings and city objects, warped around into a spherical planet like shape. These various elements combined create a surreal cityscape, while also creating an experimental soundscape that represents the manmade environments we have made for ourselves.
