The Latin American Youth Forum (layf.irmo.org.uk/main/) undertook an oral history/documentation project at Pinta London (pinta.com) 2010, with the aim of collecting and recording impressions and opinions of audiences at the first Latin American art fair to take place in the UK. They interviewed staff, artists, gallerists, collectors, and the public. All filming and editing of interviews was executed by the Forum members. The project was supported by the University of Essex Collection of Latin American Art (ueclaa.org) and the University of Essex Research and Enterprise Office (essex.ac.uk/reo/).
LAYF is a youth lead initiative of 35+ young migrant refugees and asylum seekers who are based in the London boroughs of Southwark, Lambeth and Islington.
LAYF is a young people's initiative to become more actively involved in their communities, to promote a clear vision of their reality as citizens in a multicultural society and become more involved in addressing issues concerning their identity and how to break away from existing negative stereotypical images. They aim to create awareness of the real needs and expectations of young refugees and asylum seekers based on their own experiences.
LAYF forms part of the Indo-American Refugee and Migrant Organization (irmo.org.uk), a refugee community organization that aims to assist Latin American refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants to build a settle life in the UK, gaining access to opportunities for education, employment and personal development, integrating within the broader society while maintaining their own cultural identity.
