I love your work Keith. Is a high tower another tool in your bag? Amazing angles and perspectives. How many images does a sequence like this have?
  • Keith Loutit plus 11 months ago
Thanks Jared, somewhere between 4000 and 6000 stills used but plenty more wasted.

How's your shutter holding up? Have you had to buy a new camera yet because of that overuse? Interesting to apply this technique to sections of famous old movies..(probably too much blur though)... I guess low light subject matter no good for this effect (nightclubs etc)? A big surgical operation or ER room would be amazing...(and plenty of light there). I also feel like this effect would be really interesting with emotional subject matter - scenes of intimacy / romance - could be a good excuse for a scripted/choreographed scenario / dance/sex . . . help to build story more of course - - have you been commissioned for any music videos? (sure you have)...ALso - I guess this must be your next move but: motion control? The gear is kind if expensive but totally worth it - sure it would get away from the 'miniature set' effect a little by opening out a wider view - BUT I think the dof & speed does enough to confuse the perception that there is room for something more, something that almost brings us further toward reality (thereby intensifying the confusion somehow - iykwim???) Anyway - keep up the great work - you clearly have many fans! Cheers JT

why does this look like stop motion? like everything's actually in miniature?!? is it the shallow depth of field?! Bizarre...
  •
  • Alan Godwin 10 months ago
Nice movie! Just wondering how you put those shots together as a movie. I have done some real simple ones for the family but would like to get a lot more control. Are you using Final Cut to put them all together?
    Thanks,
    Al

very creative! I liked the 'stop-motion' style you gave to it.
I've done this kind of 'miniature' effect to my pictures in photoshop, but never thought to apply it to videos

Bear with me on this.I like this video and from the comments I gather it it still photos pieced together like in stop motion. Why does parts of the same image look like it's in minature.
  • Spencer Rees Lattimer 10 months ago
most likely because of the vividness of the images and the angle the shots were taken. most timelapse via video isn't as clear and taken from such high angles especially landscapes.

Hey Keith, really great work - these are so fun to watch. I am wondering if the lenses you use are a trade secret? You are very gracious yet vague about lens-specific questions :-) I figured I'd just flat-out ask you, what are some of the lenses you use or shall they never be revealed..?! Thanks for the great videos either way.

Fascinating. I was intrigued by the boxers and the hula-hooper. The whole thing makes me feel like humans are so teeny in the scope of things. We look like little ant-people. Hooping, boxing ant people. : ) Fabulous work.

Great stuff... but I'm skeptical about the t/s lens claim. I think it's being done in post. I tested one of my straight shots and got the same effect. Crank up the contrast to make the items look painted... Will post it sometime soon.
