Todd Lawson (Part 2) and Daniel Madigan

Todd Lawson concludes his presentation, "Tafsir and the Meaning of the Qur'an: the Crucifixion in Muslim Thought" and discusses with the audience, followed by Daniel Madigan presenting "Trends in non-Muslim Readings of the Qur'an" (continued in the next clip).

Todd Lawson holds the position of Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. He specializes in mystical Qur’anic exegesis, Shiism, and Sufism, and is the author of numerous books, including “The Gnostic Apocalypse in Islam” (2009), and the “The Crucifixion and the Qur’an” (2009). He earned his Ph.D. from McGill University in 1987.

Daniel Madigan S.J. is an Australian Jesuit priest and a Senior Fellow at the Al-Waleed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. He received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in Islamic Religion, and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Theology at Georgetown University. His publications include “The Qur’an’s Self-Image: Writing and Authority in Islam’s Scripture” (2001).
