The title of this piece, borrowed from the Shipping Forecast, refers both to rising levels of C02 in the atmosphere and to rising sea levels which already affect our coastlines in Wales. Both rise so slowly and insidiously that we may be forgiven for thinking that nothing is happening but drop by drop there is an unstoppable process at work. Watching and waiting for something to happen has been one focus of my work with climate change.
The work makes many allusions to the landscape of Wales with its layers of misty mountains, lakes, coastal plains and frequently changing atmospheric conditions. Beauty is seen in a drop of rain and a puddle but the message is disquieting – the forces of nature are beyond our control and the process of change is incremental and inevitable.
