In Los Angeles, CA., through his newly appointed Gang Czar, Jeff Carr, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa launched an initiative to keep Los Angeles residents safe from violence associated with gang activities in Los Angeles City Parks. The “Summer Night Lights” project, which gave summer park jobs to at-risk youth, with a focus on peace, resulted in zero homicides.
