some great juxtapositions, but some shots seem a little over processed to me
  • Thanks man, haha. Some of the shots were indeed over processed. I wish I had time to edit more. I was rushed with this video and couldn't tweak it to my liking because I'm flying out of town today. I hope you liked it anyway, haha. Take care!
  • Brown 3 years ago
I did, I liked it a lot, inspiring.

    What expressive editing!
Mixed very well together, interesting statement ...
At 6:22 that you are? Beautiful smile!
Thank you, I like the video very much!
It is more than just HD. A good message to Mother Nature and Humanity!
  • Haha, no. That's my boyfriend. It's actually a video made for him as a sentiment of our trip we took a couple months back. Thank you so much for the nice comment!

Really like the heavy processing, quick cuts and general mood of this. Efterklang makes it very grand...
  • Jay Stebbins 3 years ago
I like the heavy processing and roughness of this as well. I think it lends to the mood felt when traveling for a long time. Really nice!

O god! How did you colour correct such a god video??? I am obsessed with your work. What do you edit on and how do you make al those fast transitions?

And how do you make it look such depth of fieldish? Do you use a 35mm adapter?
  •
  • Spudgun 3 years ago
NONE of it looks bad. I think you have a remarkable eye and are clearly a talented videographer. You need to develop your story telling skills and you will unquestionably be quite a package.

  • Keeir 3 years ago
Very nice. I like the takes thought some of them could be edited better. But I can see people have already told you, and I still think the result is very nice.

What is the music. I could sound like efterklang or something like them.
  • I do think the editing is very good. Do you mean the color correction, cutting, choice of clips?

Thanks for the nice compliment, too! The music is indeed by Efterklang.
  • Keeir 3 years ago
I was mainly the part of the video in the start, where you have a take flying over town, followed up by an drive through an open forest. I think that shoot kind of falls out of the video because of the camera jumping up an down, which my mind doesn't seem to like, because it doesn't fit the music and the colour correcting doesn't seem as hard, like the rest of the shootings in the video does. haha. Properly it's just me :)

But else I really like the way you have colourcorrected the shoots. Especially the shoot where you're following the ant is brilliant. I love it.

  • Paul Tarlevs 3 years ago
Wow. May I ask, how do you keep your shots so steady?
  • Thanks. I just did something like tai chi where my whole body would mechanize and move like a machine to try and keep the shots smooth.
  • Paul Tarlevs 3 years ago
how do u do that? teach plz?

Also, the way u colour correct in vegas is amazing. could you share some of that information?
  • I think for the tai chi you'll need to go on youtube or something to see how they move their bodies.
  • Paul Tarlevs 3 years ago
ok. but could u share the way you colour correct?
  •
  • Jimmy2531 3 years ago
Amazing as always :D I have no critisms of this video at all, I liked everything about it from content to colour correction. I just want to say first that I have been enjoying your videos for a long time, and that you have been inspirational in many ways to me. Along those lines I was introduced to efterklang through your videos, and they have since become one of my favorite bands.

I say this because I don't want you to get the wrong impression from my next comment. I think that your cinematography and your editing are both so powerful on their own, that I think that you could be making much more important work than the, what are essentially very well done, music videos that you do.

Maybe its not what you are interested in now or ever, but i know that you have the power to say profound things through your film if you choose to.

You seem to be using the power of the music as a crutch to drive the emotion in your films, and its some thing that i think you should lean less on because you don't need it.

That being said, I still think that this and all your videos are great, and I am looking forward to seeing more of your videos in the future.

  • Thanks so much for your wonderful comment, Nils. I really appreciate it. I'm finishing up on a short film right now, and have only time to produce these montages of trips and such at the moment. The film should be done next month sometime. If you have any ideas on creative ventures I could take I would love to hear. Seeing comments like this really inspire me to keep driving myself to strive to make even more challenging and beautiful art. I would love to hear any suggestions on how I could further myself in the creative world! Thanks man!

    Matthew, stunning imagery and editing.
A whisker too long for me ( as the modus operandi becomes apparent ) but the cutting, pace and photography sustain the film to the end.

    Fantastic work,

Matthew, are you a real person? How could so much talent fit in one person. Your pictures are a lot more than beautyful, they have many levels, they are deep and truely inspirational. You are an artist!
  • Thank you so much! Right now I'm in the middle of editing my first short film and started getting discouraged because of the overwhelming amount issues I'm having with it. You've boosted my confidence and perseverance! Again, thank you so much for your very kind comment, Sven! I appreciate it greatly! I'll just read this comment again if I start to feel bad about the short film I'm editing. Take care! -Matthew

Incredible! Loved every second of it! The takes are full of life and of power in every being shot. I would've edited a very bit differently but it's still very very strong. And Efterklang adds just the right punch to it.

    You are truly an inspiration!

I love the style and presence that your editing brings out.

I get my HV40 on Monday. I am very excited to show the world how I see it as you do.
  • Thank you very much! Although, I'm not liking my HV40 at all. I think I might return it for my HV30 back. The focus is pretty shitty on it. The instant focus isn't so instant. It's like they downgraded certain things. Kind of lame.
  • Colby Larson 2 years ago
Really? Well if i experience that I will most definitely be returning it. I originally wanted to buy the HV30 but I cannot find a good price on it anywhere.

OK... I'm sorry... but somewhere here, you lost me at "it's the naked camera"..

Clearly, this is not all YOUR footage! Please tell me I'm wrong. ;)

    But great editing!

    Clarke
  • Thank you for the nice compliment! Yes, every shot in this and all my videos are by me, hehe. The naked camera refers to using a camera without any attachments whatsoever. So there isn't any lens adapters, no tripod, or anything like that. Just the bare camera itself. :) Thanks for the nice words! :D

I really don´t know, if your grading is my case, but...anyhow...I don´t know...your style is very cool and unique...kinda "trashy storytelling" but hey..it seems to work...love it!!!*thumbs->up*
  • Thank you for the nice words. :)

It's not really storytelling, though. It's a montage, a collage of what I saw on my trip set to music. Nothing more, hehe.

    Thank you again! :)
