timelapse in the beginning? Yeah, really using all the strengths very carefully...

regular photos for the exteriors... video mode for flesh, lots of film clutter for cover...
    nice work!

I have been an independent producer/director for over twenty years... This is excellent production and editing work - creatively edgy - and it really showcases a great song by the artist and his group... Congratulations to all of you on an exceptional job!

PS - I just bought a D90 DSLR to add to my production tools and I am anxious to start using it...

Great video was wondering did you guys make the shoulder mount your-self? and what type of SDHC card did you use? nikon say that they only support a few brands but there are some really fast cards out there that I wanted to try out.

sorry to reply so late. We used the Redrock Micro DSLR Kit for shooting with the D90. You can see how the bundle looks by checking out this behind the scenes vid:

Amazing. What was used for post? FCP? After Effects? Magic Bullet? The footage looks more like a 24fps than a 30fps. What was used to drop the frame rate if that was the case?
  • Jon Todd Collins plus 2 years ago
I used FCP to edit all the video. I considered using After Effects for all compositing shots, but went ahead and did it in Final Cut. In hindsight, After Effects would have made an easier go of it.

The camera we used (Nikon D90) shoots in 24p, so all the raw footage came into FCP in 720p24. I didn't have to drop the frame rate in post. Also, I didn't use magic bullet for color, but did use a few 55mm plug ins for the bleach bypass look and "glow," along with the standard 3-wqy color corrector in Final Cut to push the yellows.

Thanks for the insight Jon. You and your team did an amazing job on this whole project. I really like the 24fps look. I wish the MarkII firmware update will come with a 24fps option. Right now, I'm using the cineform neoscene codec to drop it down to 24fps. Results are not bad. Can't wait to see more future projects from you.

Totally speechless. I've been scouring the web for nikon video footage. This is by far the best I've seen. Thank you for a wonderful cinematic experience and proof that VDSLR's are definitely going to shake things up in the year to come. I'm looking forward to more footage from your team. Thanks again.

  • IGO plus 2 years ago
Nice work! I would really like to hear you thoughts on how easy the video was to work with in FCP and AE. Really... how easy was that chroma key footage to cut in AE?
  •
  • Anders Eklund 1 year ago
    Love this!
  •
  • How did you do those glitching effects?
  • Jon Todd Collins plus 1 year ago
most of them are layered shots set at different sizes / opacities and mvmt is keyframed. then a plug in is applied for the more extreme shaking.
