Recently upgraded to Adobe CS4 and wanted to take After Effects and Premiere out for a little test drive.
Brought my camera to work, asked a couple colleagues to help me out, and KABLOOEY! New video.
Enjoy!

    COOL!

I accidentally just watched that with my two year old.....whoops!
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Sorry about that, Matt! I hope I didn't traumatize your two-year-old too much. Then again, with you as a father, I'm sure he's aware of "movie magic." Hahaha. :-)

    Um...I'm not messing with Darwin!

Great to see a video up here Joe!!!
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Thanks, Ashley. It's been WAY too long since I've posted a video up here. Three months to be exact. Honestly... I've been really busy being lazy.

Oooops... "How about killing a Yak from 200 yards away with mind bullets". Great test.
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
A Yak, eh? Hmmm... not sure I've seen a Yak in my neck o' the woods. How about a cow? I can look outside my house right now and see one grazing on the hillside.

    You must live somewhere scenic.
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Eh... not exactly. I wish! :-) Just at some foothills so there are always cows roaming around. But look down the road a little ways and there's plenty of buildings, houses, cars, and other standard city life stuff.

Nice one Joe, looking forward to seeing what you can do with this!
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Thank you, Mr. Monkey... or can I call you Funky? Yeah, hopefully I don't fall back into another one of my lazy streaks where I don't post anything for 3 months.

Very funny. Made us all laugh here at work. I like the color tone. Good to see you post again.
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Thanks for the comment, Jared. It's hard to keep up with your tsunami of uploads. :-) Glad you and your co-workers got a kick out of it.

SPLAT! Good solution for annoying co-workers. That dude was like Sylar on crack. Nice work Joseph!
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Yeah, dude. Screw slowly slicing the top of a person's head. Just blow the damn thing up. Sylar's got nothin' on Darwin.

Ewww! lol, I didn't know that would happen and it scared me. :P
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
I think that's the perfect reaction: Ewww straight into a LOL. I was going for the shock/suprise factor with this one. Let's hope people watching for the first time don't read the comments first! :-)

CS4 is on my Christmas list. I really do not enjoy my current HD editing app at all. Can't wait for seamless AVCHD editing in Premiere.
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
Personally I'm still stick in the Stone age with my HDV tape camera, but those of us (meaning you) lucky enough to have a solid state cam, the AVCHD editing is worth the price of admission alone! :-)
  • charliesteadman plus 1 year ago
It's really nice not having to import tape anymore. But I hate using Pinnacle Studio 12 even more and I'm only using it so I don't have to convert my AVCHD files. I need CS4 so I can use AVCHD files without conversion in Premiere. Saving my pennies.
  • Clan McCloud plus 1 year ago
I used to work at Pinnacle (before Avid acquired them). Everyone there hated me because I didn't use their software. What can I say... I more comfortable with Adobe! In all honesty though, they do makes some pretty great products. :-)

How does editing HD footage in CS3 compare to editing in CS4?
  • Clan McCloud plus 11 months ago
pretty identical. Although CS4 takes advantage of the GPU much better.

I was totally caught off guard with that. Not sure how I feel about myself because I laughed so hard.
  • Clan McCloud plus 8 months ago
Don't feel bad. Imagine how I feel... I'm the one who shot it! (no pun intended). Hahaha.
    Thanks for the comment.

A short as a short should be. Excellent.

You went for a matter-of-fact approach which served the material well.

My style would have involved huge close ups of the "tooling up" "lock and load" process....which would take away from the punch line simplicity of the conclusion.

Yeah, for this one it was basically a little story wrapped around a After Effects test I wanted to try. So the idea was to get in and get out really quick.

I'm really enjoying watching your videos. You have a great editing style!
