Spatial Memory is an installation that consists of a video capture system, video playback and 3 momentary switches. The project documents the memory of the gallery space. When either of the three buttons is pressed, an image is recorded and saved to that specific button’s memory for future playback. The image sequences of the remaining two locations are then displayed. This specific configuration highlights two states: present (audience currently interacting with the installation), and past (the record of all previous interactions). The most recently recorded image is not immediately displayed emphasizing the tension between the “now” in the real space, and the memory of “then” in the virtual/digital space.
