i got a tickets for not riding my bike in a bike lane... didn't seem fair.

full disclosure; i do break a lot of laws on my bike (i try to be safe but don't obey 100% of the rules 100% of the time) AND i want to mention what a cool guy this police officer was for letting me film him

I never get pulled over for not riding in the bike lane. It's common for cyclists here to just take the lane, tell the cars to just deal with it. And since its a tourist town, and tourists inexplicably don't know how to drive, when you DO ride in the bike lane you get doored and end up with 30 stitches... ouch.

haha pretty dam funny, and its true all across America, We delivr things and I don't drive (am passenger) and it drives me crazy every time one of the drivers drives the truck in the bike lane instead of in their own lane :)

bicyclist summoned for not riding in bike lane, but others are not summoned to obstruct the bike lane..we dont even have bicycle lane here
  •
  • Amanda Rains 8 months ago
Thumbs Up Casey... I'm a bike rider too. In California we are treated the same as vehicles. We can actually "take a lane" like a left turn lane at an intersection. Its truly risky but legal. I love your protest film - keep up the good work.

Kudos to you Casey, for taking your thoughts + frustrations and melding them with a little creative storytelling.

    Two quick questions
    1. Which fall hurt the most? I'm guessing the jump'fall into the moving truck was bMovie stunt worthy! #wellDone
    2. Of all the cars you bounced into, which one was most damaged. Any chance the cop car at the end was at least $51 worth of scratched paint n'dent!

    Keep on creativeGroovin Casey!

Casey - man, you're committed. Please tell me no bike was harmed in the making of this video (somehow, me thinks not!). Smitty has a great point - when I was younger the strategy was to perform civil disobedience to draw attention to stupid laws. I hope your strategy of 'civil obedience' works. It sure is funny. Thankyou for the effort you have made. Somehow, I think YouTube's 'social architecture' (which emphasises popularity, not artistic merit) would make it the best site for such a campaign, if that is your main goal . Is it up there as well?
    Congratulations - very funny.

That's a really funny video Casey. Drivers with mobile phones, tinted glass, it's kinda insular in a modern car.
No wonder us bikers are pissed. You make a great point.

in sweden it's not a law on riding in the bikelains it's just there for the benefit of the bikers.. Though I do think that was perhaps a little overkill in the crashes you did.. I mean you proved your point the first or second time..
  •
  • This video is just... So nice! maybe people now can understand why we not use the bike lanes!!!
