Seaside documentary trailer

Seaside documentary trailer

Jillian Tucker

In 1981 when Robert Davis was given 80 acres of scrub oaks and sand in the panhandle of Florida by his grandfather, he did something remarkable. Instead of building high rise condos, he built a town. The town was built on a human scale that celebrated the pedestrian and discouraged the automobile. It was "the new town the old ways" that stemmed from the way towns had been organically built for thousands of years before the period of architectural amnesia and automobile dominance that occurred after WWII. This trailer previews the documentary that tells Seaside's story - its successes and challenges as it evolved from scrub oaks into the town that gave rise to the New Urbanism movement.
