Prev week
I have to admit, one of the best rip-off's in history.
FRAME FOR FRAME!
This one was shot with the Canon 5D MArk II, and the technicolor cinestyle curve, filters like polarizers, ND and color gradients were use on set and then everything was color corrected on Apple 'Color'... hope it helps... I'll try to post some more info on the workflow
It's amazing how much beauty you are able to get from this little camera and i imagine a relatively humble budget if i compare to the final result... Wow!
I tend o use Leica and Zeiss lens but i was suprised how nicely soft and organic your image look with the Canon L Lens. Do you use more the 100 Macro IS the the 85mm L ruben?
Im trying to make my mind for a Follow Focus and on a essential minimum shooting rig for my 5d (filters? Matte box? EVF ? ) And if you could give me your opinion about with what you like to shoot with, it will be greatly appreciated...
Looking forward your suggestions and .. next works!
Cheers,
vincent*
First of all I will say yes, the budgets are pretty small... but on the other side I have way more freedom than in commercial projects
Both lenses are great 100 macro IS and 85 L I don't tent to use one more than the other (funny thing is that I didn't use any of these two lenses for this project :)) even though I love them both !!!
After getting a ""cheap"" matte box that it was driving me crazy (I won't say names) I decided to get the Arri matte box and follow focus for the DSLRs and I've to say it's great, really easy and fast to work with !!!
Another funny thing is that I never get one of those EVFs I personally prefer to wrap the camera with black wrap and put my whole face inside !!
And filters...
I love ultra polarizers and color gradients (like in the 80's) although I try to compensate them back later on post... you can see some behind the scenes photos in this link

And once again thank you so so much for your comment, it gives me strength to keep working...
Thank you...
There are some days like this Ruben, it's a struggle but whatever is being done in the dark, will be brought in the light... Your talent, experience and sensitivity are evident, after it's just a question of patience, luck , and working with the right agency and producer like you know :)
So both a Arri follow focus and Mattebox? Funny how now you shoot with the cam who cost less than each of then :)
Are you shooting with a DSLR Rig?
Love your blog by the way, inspired snapshot taken on your road and storyboard drawings are really pleasant to discover, im following it now :)
one question, how do you get those lens flares? are they done in post? or using light leaks/broken glass?
I've shared this video with so many people who are astounded this was done on a 5D.
Flares were done on camera using broken glass and reading glasses in front of the lens...
Thanks again
How much CG there is in this video (if there is...). Something about the lighting?
Great piece of art man!
There's no CG at all and lighting basically was day light with bounce boards and a HMI in some of the shoots and a light panel for the close ups

There's some "dirty" scenes. Like the one with the man who walk on the right of the plane, or when he drink water, with fantastic blurred things in front (or light rays). Do you have a secret to do this in a so amazing way?
question: You say you shot Cinestyle...Do you add sharpness back in post? this is a very organic image. I'll like to know how you achieve that.
I didn't sharpness the image, I did contrasted though, hope it helps
Pioneering video...Go on like ARTisT :-)
Keep it up!
Cheers Silverwing
I really fancy the out of focus bokeh elements, likes in the first shot.
Did you shot those separately and added them in post production?
got my answer! :)
May I ask, what are the light distortions at :37, the opening shot, and other parts of this video? Were they blurs created in post?
Love it.
Thank you for the comment
Se que no es fácil grabar en esas localizaciones, con el agresivo clima islandes y el acceso tan complicado a los spots, así que valoro mucho tu entrega.
Enhorabuena.
and about the lens flare' very smart man, its beautifull
