Quite happy with how the fireball itself works, but the ‘trails’ need a lot of tweaking. Hoping to get flaming debris on the end of the trails too, but seeing as I have no real need for an explosion in the near future project wise, I’ll come back to it later.

All done in Blender with particles, no volumetrics. I think I'll leave those alone until they are officially integrated. Look fun though. :)

But I think it would be better with more smoke and debris :)

    Amazing indeed!

I think the trails need to be affected by gravity a bit, as they are usually parts of the exploded objects and fall on the ground. Just my 2 cents.

I wanted to do more with it before a tutorial was written, but fweibel.com/blender/atomicbombtutorial_EN.pdf is the tutorial I followed for the general idea of how the lighting and materials work.

I agree on the trails needing work in particular, but haven't made the time to go back to it yet. I mainly do characters and modelling, this was sort of a venture into effects.

Short film by the author of the explosion tutorial and the explosion in this film was what caused me to be up til 5am with Blender making this explosion... :)
