American reggae and RnB star ‘Shaggy’ visited the Kigali Memorial Centre on 13 December. Shaggy, best known for global hits like ‘Oh Carolina’, ‘Mr Boombastic’ and ‘Angel’, said he was deeply moved by the visit.
“The memorial shed light on a lot of things. It's very educational. From watching Hotel Rwanda, you get a sense of the story, but coming through here, you get it more in-depth," he said. "It's very chilling because it's real, and it kind of leaves a thing in your mind to wonder how the international community could have just stood by and let it happen… We can try, through our art and our music, to raise awareness and to send a strong message that what happened here was wrong, was immoral, and try our best to prevent it in the future.”
The film shows a 100-second interview with Shaggy following his tour of the Centre, conducted for Aegis by Yvonne Umugwaneza.
