After flying high and smoothly, my quadcopter apparently lost a propeller, causing it to come down pretty catastrophically into a tree. Since it was about 30 feet from the ground, I tried a variety of methods, including throwing a basketball, buying 200 feet of rope and throwing it across the branches, but nothing worked. I eventually walked to the fire department and asked them to see if they could help. They got it down with a telepole in five minutes.
