Waking Up is a open source film about a positive future for humanity, for a change. The film is in the making by several people, and you can contribute to the writing of it on wakingupmovie.com.

The film is about Ben, who froze himself down in 2010, in the hope that humanity once might be able to thaw him up and cure his disease.

And this is exactly what happens. In the year 2110, the world has gone through massive changes towards the positive. Both technology and human values has developed into a whole new world, positive in all aspects for humanity.

One of the aspects is that money and property is gone, and people do things for other reasons than hoarding wealth. Waking Up is about Ben's experiences in this world and the difficulties he faces in waking up to this new reality.

In this scene, Ben is walking in the woods with his newly acquainted guide, Aweena. He has only been awake for a few days, after several weeks of curing and restituting his body while he was asleep. He is a bit confused, and can't really understand what has happened. He feels somewhat attracted to this new world and to Aweena, but at the same time he has trouble believing it is real.

The movie will be an 'open source' concept where others can contribute. The website for the movie can be found at wakingupmovie.com. It is a movie about a positive future for humantiy, and hopefully, humanity will contribute in writing it and making it real. The movie needs a full script, and a lot of CGI, and basically every thing else at this moment. :)

Yes, finally somebody who gets it!
A future where we utilise technology in an intelligent way, instead of the usual projections of war, power, money, bla bla bla...

A Resource Based economy, access abundance, systems theory. Can't wait to see the full movie ;)

Love it. So when they exit the lovely forest to venture into the city, will it happen to be a circular format that's highly efficient and amazingly beautiful? ;)
  • Harald Sandø plus 7 months ago
Hehe...it might? We are creating this, our future.... ;)
Personally I think we will have both beautiful efficient cities together permaculture living on the country side close to nature, and several other ways of living as well.
  • gabssnake 7 months ago
Oh, cities ARE nature. Just as we are, and everything we do. But hey, language sucks.

I would love cities that include abundant plants and lakes, with birds and everything, and still be efficient and responsible with resources, but that's another subject.

Great. But I don't get it, why didn't he saw the 'Welcome to the present' video? By that time they would have figured out that automation is more efficient and effective, right?

Everything about this short scene is the closest of perfection I've ever seen. The quality of the picture, the dialogue, the acting, the message....Brilliant!!! This will be shared at a rapid pace over the internet, and I will add at least a 1000 viewers to see this very promising and "awakening" moment. The first ever uplifting view of the future. This short scene made my day, thank you!!!

  • love this video. thanks! salute to all those involved, especially the screenwriter!

great message! just a little criticism: a rock solid humane and scientific message like this should not be presented based on a totally unscientific premise like waking up people that were cryogenically frozen in 2010. it is proven that the cells (including the brain) of the people who are frozen today, are irreversibly damaged in the process. so using this premise makes the whole message look silly. maybe you could think of another way to tell this story.
  • Andrei Latyshau 7 months ago
I think it is OK. There is no reason to do something completely scientific. This is fantastic. The objective I see is in changing people's mind. Showing the alternative world without cyborgs, zombies, viruses, and insurance companies :D

It should not be documentary -> to the contrary it should be fantastic movie -> because fantasy is what goes into your brain and lives as a frequency that magnifies, attracts. On the subconsciousness-level the science is driven by fantastic novels and movies. Because whole our world view is being built on the stories we read and movies we watch.
  • Andrei Latyshau 7 months ago
a.. and I would like to add another argumentation why it should be the fantasy..

documentary movies force our consciousness to accept some facts that the movies projects into future.. I consider it wrong or unefficient, because nobody is able to show the future, but the reason exists to show the variant of the reality... because the future is completely defined by our collective faith.

    So, great job!
  • Harald Sandø plus 7 months ago
I agree with you Andrei! :)
  • Andrea Passaglia 7 months ago
    >irreversibly damaged
What do you mean by that?
If you wipe an hard disk and write all zeros on it, forensic labs are able to recovery data by reading out of track with narrow heads or by examining the form of the magnetic signal.
What I mean is, even if the cells are damaged it could be possible in theory, by examining them one by one (with nanorobots?) to restore them. I don’t know anything about neuroscience but normally, you first let your fantasy go wild and then try to rationalize it (just like girls do with their sentimental life :-)

I love that future! I know that this future could be tomorrow, if we overcome the barriers that separate us, and if the world culture was given to the philosophy "what we really need?" Consume? Wasted? Be financially rich or humanly?

Hello Harald, you have some fans on the ZM forum.
Everyone was sad when Z-radio had to be rescheduled but understand. The clip and concept is fantastic. Hope you get the win in the contest and this concept continues to evolve, including the backpack idea.
  • Harald Sandø plus 6 months ago
Thank you for being understandable. I've had a bit too much on my mind lately I think.… But we will record the interview tonight, so ZRadio can send it whenever it's convenient. :)

Will there be any chance that the audience could comment during the interview or have you reviewed any of the comments and suggestion about the project on the ZM forum?
  • Harald Sandø plus 6 months ago
I don't know, you'll have to ask ZRadio. We will do the interview now... Which ZM forum? There are so many… Can you add a link?

After Ben exits the Doc's office with his prognosis he stops into a cafe for a for a double espresso. He plans to never go to sleep again and see and do all he can with the little time he has left..
Aweena mother, Betty , played by Aweena 2110, slides the coffee across the counter along with a white envelope and tells him that it is a promotion he may be interested in. As Ben settles in to contemplate what he has to do with this time he opens the envelope to find an exclusive innovation to several one of a kind adventures offered through Sir Richard Hansons, Glatic Adventure
Network. The adventure network of the Billionaires. They have excellent target marketing.
After browsing through the ultimate and mega expensive adventures. Ben has received these promotions before. Only the one percent could afford to toss away all those resources and get nothing in return, he finds the one with the bulls-eye. For One Billion you can be frozen while out in space and sent off on a 100 year round trip to the edge of our solar system and back. You can then tell all your friends you have been there.
300 singed up. Ben was #299..........

To Mr. Sando - Loved the film! I work for a non-profit org fostering life extension and cryonics is high on our list. I have the pleasure of working with varied professionals from the US & European cryonics orgs, and research facilities. I spearheaded a cryonics first response team in my county, comprised solely of medical professionals.

To comment on Bright Geist's statement (above) that the cells of those currently cryopreserved are irreversibly damaged - such is not necessarily true. By current science/technology standards, yes, we have no manner of repair, but nanotechnology is the key, holding the greatest promise for repairing damage at the cellular or atomic level. There are learned professionals today working on plausible revival scenarios. It is a common belief within the cryonics community that the first patients cryopreserved will require greater progressions in science than those more recently preserved as the protocols have vastly changed. The early cryopreservations were done via a straight freeze during which many cells ruptured however, patients are now preserved through what is called the vitrification method - a method of freezing which takes a patient directly to the glass stage of freezing, bypassing the crystal stage of freezing where the damage occurs - lesser advancements in science/technology will be required to revive patients who were vitrified as the damage is purported to be significantly minimized.

From reading several of the post above, I gleaned that this short film is a prelude to a future, full length film project? That would be fantastic - as long as it were accurately depicted - society deserves to learn about cryonics as a plausible alternative to traditional burial/cremation instead of being mislead by the dramatic license all-to- often employed in sci fi films.

Aside from working for a non-profit fostering life extension and cryonics, I am the daughter of a funeral director and was raised Roman Catholic. Yes, certain ingrained beliefs have stymied me (briefly) during my research into cryonics however; I was raised to be very open minded and where I may falter as to ethics and/or morality, my inquisitive nature and thirst for greater knowledge takes over and I quickly forge ahead.

This is my first post on Vimeo, but I will slate this site to check for further posts.

Again Mr. Sando - loved the short film - to the degree that I've shared it with others in the cryonics community!
  • Harald Sandø plus 6 months ago
    Hi Loraine!

Wow, people come in from all over the place… And now someone actually in cryonics!

Very interesting that you can confirm the viability of the film's concept. No one knows exactly what will be possible in a 100 years, but I think we can say that the probability is pretty high people in vitrification can be revived then. And especially if they were 'frozen' in 2011/12, not? At least high enough for us to use it in the film. :)

    I like this.
I would like to add it as dialog to the part where Ben comes in for his, fifth, second opinion.

"That would be fantastic - as long as it were accurately depicted"

I see this projects timeline from now 2010 to 100 years from now, 2110.
Not sure how "accurately depicted" you can be within those guidelines. check out all the links and the google dock page.
You could be a valuable asset to this project.

    One more thing,
I would like to see a little recycle bot follow up on Ben and pick up his coat for recycling.
