“Absent”, a short film by Richie Siegel, follows Jake, a 12th grader growing up in a wealthy suburb outside New York City. Jake is not fond of the culture his town exhibits: excessive spending, absent parents and limitless teens. Jake has lived through this culture his whole life. After all of this time, he begins to see the destructive nature of the culture he is immersed in. His father, Bruce, works non-stop on Wall Street and pays little attention to Jake. Jake attempts to discuss his feelings for the culture with his father, but has little success. Finally, Jake realizes the only way for him to ensure his future is not a product of his surroundings is to take control of his life, regardless of the consequences. The film stars Michael Liebhauser as Jake and Ed Blackburn as Bruce.
