First off a very special thanks to our pilot Bob Powell. Without him, this project would literally have never gotten off the ground.

We shot this June 2, 2011 with 4 cameras. Two GoPro HD Hero cameras were mounted to the exterior of the plane, while myself and second cameraman Chad Janusch operated a Canon T2i and Nikon D7000 inside the cabin.

Hey, well done Mark. I LOVE @ 1:18. Makes me miss The Bay Area. The way you did this would make a great music video idea for a band from SF. =)

I watched this all the way to the end, then I watched it again... GoPro owes you a couple cameras (and a 3D Kit) best I can tell. Nice work!

how do you get such good shots in the sunset. was filming while on the way to vancouver and sunset pictures turned out a lot worse than expected
  • Mark Sandhoff plus 7 months ago
the GoPros adjust their shutter speed for exposure automatically, so I can't take credit there. With the DSLRs, don't be afraid to stop down. Most of those shots were around f11-f16 with a shutter speed of 1/50

Great film and great flying. Must have been a lot of work to fly in and around the class B airspace like that! And I'm shocked that the camera stayed on the plane with all of the movement at 0:46!

Did you guys do any stabilization in post? How were the cameras attached to the plane?

Great work btw, I really enjoyed seeing this!
  • Mark Sandhoff plus 7 months ago
No stabilization was added in post. We attached the cameras using cardellini clamps, and then used short runs of baling wire to safety each camera down.

    Glad you enjoyed watching!

Great vid! Very impressive pictures! Just the sound quality somehow negatively affects the overall impression.

Great work - you ought to trying shooting with either the window or door removed...
  • Mark Sandhoff plus 1 month ago
Thanks! I'm not sure how easily the doors/windows remove on the piper warrior, but that would allow for some intense angles!
