My short film was a entry for the Reflections middle school level competition. It expresses the idea that friendship is the “essential puzzle piece” to any day. What this is saying is that without spending time with friends, one’s day will be lackluster and boring. On the other hand, one’s day would be energizing and awesome if shared with friends. Hence, “together we can make the day worthwhile”. My short film expresses both sides, a day without friends in the first half and with friends in last, to convey this moral to its viewers through the contrast.
While working on this project, I discovered new and exciting ways to communicate this message. For example, when I showed the weather being rainy and later clearer, I’m implying at how the character’s day progressed to be more optimistic. I used weather at other times to convey a mood or show time passing. I think the most significant way that I implied a change in the character’s day was that in the first half of the movie it was animation, and in the second it wasn’t.
