We released two rescued otter cubs back into the wild. After leaving them in a pen for a week to acclimatise to the area, we opened the gate and let them go free. However, to be sure that they had food availabe while learning to hunt for themselves, we put out dead fish every couple of days.
We were setting up a camera trap to film the otters coming back during the night when one of the otters came back for food. The infra-red lights were pointing in the wrong direction, so this is natural light at dusk with the camera (Sony A1) set on night-shot. We just stood still behind the camera and let the cub do its own thing.
This cub was rather nervous, as you can hear from the huffing sounds, and also she took a while to get up the courage to leave the water. One of the cubs did come back later, but didn't stay long.
