Here's a quick and dirty tutorial on how to round trip between Final Cut Pro 7 projects and Adobe CS5.5 Premiere projects via XML - go to the 5:40 Mark in the timeline if you want to jump straight to this demo.

There's also a very quick demo/intro to Premiere here. I've found myself going back and forth between the two pieces of software in the past few months with solid success with both Canon HDSLR footage and RED Epic footage.

Now is the time for FCP users to see what Premiere Pro has to offer. Thank you both for your continued contributions to the community!

I used the old CS3 Premiere, but are now a hardcore FCP-user. This really blew my mind. Will switch back to Premiere as we speak!

Final Cut Pro X is so disappointing. What are your thoughts on it Vincent?

As someone pondering this very issue, the interchangeability from FCP to Premier is huge (as demonstrated) relief. I believe all FCP uses should see this segment. Now I feel far more comfortable in making the transition, if Apple can't or won't get it right.

This is very cool. I think I'll use it mostly because a lot of plug-in just aren't developed for CS5.5 jet. And because all of my old projects are in FCP.

I'm a fairly new editor (coming from stills). I've started learning Premiere Pro based on this video after getting fairly used to FCP 7. I just shot a project for fun while in Greece and want to create a project in Premiere Pro with various media. I have GoPro footage at 720 60P, 5D MKII at 1080, 25P and even some iPhone 4 stuff which I believe is at 720, 30P. What happens to my frame rates when I dump it all on the PP timeline? Do I still get to use the buttery smooth slo-mo from the GoPro?

YEP---jumped FCP bridge a few days ago.....now editing today on PP....with EPIC 5k and R1 4k footage....love it. I'm on a shoot now with myEpic topside; R1 underwater and other shooters using P2; Nikon D7000 and another using Cannon 5d....ALL OF IT drops on SAME timeline--STUNNING is all i can say and a HUGE timesaver.

Very nice! yes, it is comforting to know we now can go back and forth to using the two...
I have q question though.. lets say I am using Premiere, and as we know, no need to use 'any type of compressor' to 'decode or transcode', (which ever word we like to use...), the files... then I decide to take some files to FCP 7 to make use of its powerful "color" tool... so, do I have to convert those files through either compressor or streamclip to be able to "take it" to FCP...?
How would FCP7 digest those files if they are not "converted"
Either way I think I will jump into PP and use both!!
    Thank You Vincent!

Ditto! My query: can earlier versions of fcp be migrated to Adobe Premiere. eg 6 or even 5.1. Anybody know? Let me know.

exactly what i was looking for as i'm thinking of jumping the fcp ship, much thanks. to think it takes an adobe suite to read fcp7 projects and not fcpx...
