This Footage was shot during "African Ceremonies" 3rd Day of Documenting the Pokot Initiated Ceremonies .
Three main problems among the Pokot: Drunkenness, epidemics and drought. The Pokot live in an arid area that is often struck by drought, leading to lack of water and pasture from livestock, their main source of livelihood.
The Pokot are literally synonymous with cattle rustling. For eons, they have raided their neighbours, especially the Marakwets and Turkana.
There is a presidential directive ordering the Pokot, who are heavily armed, to surrender their firearms. There is talk in Kenya that the Pokot have more sophisticated weapons than the governments’ uniformed forces!
