The hydrocarbon industry explores the ocean floor for deposits using machinery emitting and analysing sound at high volumes like rapid-fire cannon going off every 10-12 seconds. We still don't know the full physical and behavioral consequences of this activity in terms of the animals in the area, nor do we know how changes in the primary groups will impact secondary or tertiary populations.
