INTERESTED IN CONTRIBUTING TO THE 90D90 PROJECT

learn how:

If you blog it... they will come.
So first things first, time to excercize that clicky finger and go on ahead and tell a friend or two about our little project here. We want to share all the things that we find interesting right? So go ahead.. we won't get jealous while you see other websites. We know we're still special right?

Ok we're back to the story,

I took over 3,200 photos with my Nikon D90 in the first 90 Days.

The task of presenting all the things I had shot in that period of time seemed daunting... but after catching up with an old friend from high school, I found one of his shorts that he shot and edited in a similar manner as the film you see above. What inspired me most was when I watched his film, it appeared as though he had the entire stop-motion and plot in mind while he was shooting. I asked him and he said he just put them together and put music over it. I was floored. And then it hit me like a ton of bricks. I had to try it with my 90D90 idea and sure enough, instant masterpiece.

So, what hidden gems do you have hiding in your photo library, try it! It really is simple.

I would love to have more submissions from the Nikon D90 Community, but I extend the idea of 90DAYS to all camera users to enjoy. So please send in your submissions and I will post them here on the site, and my Vimeo Channel

Here are some tips on making your own:

90D90 - Create a time lapse of using all the images of you shot in 90 days

First you must batch export all the photos you have shot for the first 90 days.

One way to do this, in iPhoto is by Creating A "Smart Album" with a couple attributes:
Date : is in the range : (select your date ranges) 9/13/2008 to 12/13/2009 +
Camera Model : is : (select your camera model) NIKOND90
CLICK OK

Now Select you new Smart Album and go up to the Top Menu and Select - FILE - EXPORT

You should see a "QuickTime" option.
Select your Width & Height and Frame Length

Remember, film plays at 24 frames per second so if your song selection is 3:44 (224 seconds) you could fill up 5376 frames! Pick a frame length that will sync well with your song length.

Now export and wait for the batch to process and depending on how many frames you shot and how fast your machine is, in about an hour - you will have your 90D90 time lapse-esque video!

Don't forget to add in your music track and any title info you wanna throw in there and Upload your new film to any Video Sharing site like Vimeo, YouTube, Google Video, Blip.tv, Revver & submit your film to 90D90.com

Thanks

what is 90D90.com?

Based on the idea that 90DAYS is such a widely used and socially accepted block of time.. why? Does it have to do with the seasons? How many ways is 90DAYS used?

Here's a time-lapse of the first 90DAYS of owning a Nikon D90, at which point I started shooting EVERY thing I could.

What possessed you to go Nikon? Aren't they still using CCD technology? CMOS is the only way to go.
  • ImJustRestless 11 months ago
Well regardless of the tech in the sensor, the main reason I went for the Nikon D90 is that it is the only DSLR on the market that does this amazing looking, film quality HD video with the ability to change the depth of field and it's stunning in low light capabilities... all that, and CCD vs CMOS doesn't really play into it
  • BenSeese 11 months ago
Restless is right -- CCD vs CMOS is totally irrelevant with today's sensors. Find something else to talk about. That said, the D90 uses a CMOS. :-)
  • Allen Vestal 11 months ago
Not irrelevant at all unless noise is not important. I have yet to see a camera with a ccd sensor that could take a photo in broad daylight without noise in the shadows.

A fine idea. Cool video. I'm a D300 shooter for a while, but I might start a project with my compact camera.

I'd love to see this type of film with any other camera type as well. Couldnt hurt to have a 300D300 - Although I guess it might take you a while to export 300 days worth of photos to quicktime

Any developments on your project? I'd love to see how things are coming along if at all.

Mooi mooi, hield m'n aandacht vast voor de volle 6 minuten. (5m50s w/e ._.') Is dat trouwens Venetian Snares dat je er hebt onder gegooid? Het doet me er iig aan denken (:

    Man I love Google translate:
    Dutch Translation of Above Comment:
Pretty good, held my attention for the full 6 minutes. (5m50s w / e ._.') Is that Venetian Snares fact that you've thrown? It makes me think iig (:

    English Response:
Not sure what Venetian Snares are, but I'm glad I was able to hold your attention for that long. Makes me wanna do a 90D from when I lived in Amsterdam for 90DAYS...

    Dutch Translation Response:
Niet zeker weet wat Venetian Snares zijn, maar ik ben blij dat ik in staat was om uw aandacht voor zo lang. Makes me want to do a 90D vanaf wanneer ik woonde in Amsterdam voor 90DAYS ...

Oh I'm sorry, the vid was posted on a Dutch blog and I assumed you were the blog owner. Apparently not.

Venetian Snares is the name of a Canadian electronic musician. The music you used in the vid reminds me of his :)

Anyway, I loved it and it indeed held my attention for the full 6 minutes. Awesome vid!

Hi there, love what you did. Please can you advise how long you set the time interval in the Quicktime export.
    Cheers

    Gabi
  • ImJustRestless 11 months ago
Sure - I think you mean how did I know how long to set the interval but basically what I did was open the song and the video file in separate players and use the Paste and Scale to paste the video into the audio so that it fits the correct time. Note This may require QuickTime Pro
  • ImJustRestless 11 months ago
Another way to get this done using iPhoto and Quicktime.
Export all the photos to a folder from iPhoto. Then in Quicktime, File>Open Image Sequence. Select the first image in the sequence and then choose your framerate. Film standard framerate is 24 frames per second, but that may be too fast pace for your photos so try something less than 24, but try not to go slower than 12 FPS or else it will look like a slideshow

Many thanks for your reply.I have just tried following your second set of instructions, and almost got it correct:)I set the frame rate at 24 frames, seems correct speed for me.I tried to create a movie with 400 images, but the movie for some reason only seems to include about 100 pictures, also seems to stop on one in the midle >also the pictures are displayed in full hight, any way to scale the viewing size down (other than manually) Many thanks
