This is excerpted from the 10-minute “Tybee” video from our single-channel, Destination Series. The project utilizes the unpredictability of public interventions, tourists, costumes and improvisation to evoke an alternate universe that blurs the boundaries between visual art and theater, audience and performer, and fiction and fact.

Today the global tourist industry and an increasingly globalized mass media have made the entire world seem more accessible than ever before; yet when so much of our perception of “the Other” is mediated by images rather than context, we are never certain that our assumptions are grounded in reality. In the Destination series SKOTE employs various strategies of displacement to de-familiarize audiences, thereby enabling us to view commonplace scenarios from decidedly unfamiliar standpoints.
