hey, i love movies, i love good movies, and Transformers is certainly no Citizen Cane, BUT transformers is EXACTLY the kind of movie these sounds are for. These are the movies kids will watch and want to grow up and make movies after they see them. Tranformers is why we have 7.1 and million dollar projectors. I feel sorry for people who think they are above Tranformers, they're explosively fun and awesome.
  • Marco Raaphorst plus 7 months ago
okay, might check Tranformers out myself. the trailer didn't do it for me

John I couldn't agree more, if you go to see a film about robots from outer space fighting each, I can't see how you can expect anything more.
  • Nahuel882 7 months ago
is a film about robots for God's sake!! If you want to see some drama, go to see Shakespeare inlove or some boring movie like that..
  • Not So Strong Films pro 7 months ago
You know there are very good movies out there that still contain a lot of action and an intriguing story line. Though, "Transformers" is not one of them.

I'm all for the idea of large movies that have explosions and become a thrilling ride. But they must also have a stable plot and solid screenplay (at the very least). Not one that works as a flimsy piece of framework, that's only relevance is to give an excuse as to why our senses our being obliterated by incoherent editing/ visuals.

Nahuel882, if you're suggesting that dramas are a category of "boring" movies, then I must say you're surely missing out. The only "boring" movies are the ones that offer nothing new and waste our time.
  • David Watts 7 months ago
John, calling Transformers a bad movie isn't necessarily a comment on big budget action movies. I like a lot of them, actually, including Avatar which is about as big budget as they get. And even though Avatar didn't have a particularly interesting or original story - it was a good film.

So when I say Transformers (all of them) are bad movies, I'm saying just that. They're badly made and badly executed films.
  • andrew tregoning 7 months ago
    well said sir
  • Fake Studio plus 7 months ago
Sorry to differ, but if there's something than transformers 3 it's not it's badly made or badly executed. If you're talking about story deepness or character evolution, fine but if Transformers 3 it's something it's and awesome good crafted experience, technically speaking one of the top efforts i' ve ever seen.

You know, people can say what they like about Michael Bay. They can rip him for his cheesy action but for a lot of people that's exactly why we go to see his movies. He knows how to make an eye popping, mind blowing, ass kicking action movie and the go faster stripes, flame motifs, INSANE stunts, explosions & action are all part of the fun. But its the sound that makes those elements come together and give it the blood pumping wow factor. I cant wait for this movie & I hope my local cinema (which is pretty up to date) has the 7.1 to really enjoy all the hard work that went into the foley & score!
  • Article19 plus 7 months ago
oh please, the guy makes 2 hour long commercials and is a well documented sexist idiot.
  • TJ Jeffrey plus 7 months ago
Firstly, I dont care what the guy is like, you wouldn't be watching many movies if you were basing your viewing habits on 2nd hand observations of the filmmakers personalities. Or do you know him personally? More likely you're repeating hearsay, tabloid print or observations from edited interviews. In which case, BBBAAAAAAA! The rest is subjective, people enjoy a movie or they don't. Personally I like a rollicking good action movie regardless of who its made by and I'll judge this movie based on my viewing experience not a random trolling commenter.
  • Article19 plus 7 months ago
dude, the guy hired a Victoria's Secret model for the lead role, nuff said, end of, etc, etc. You think shots like this : backseatcuddler.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/megan-fox-transformers-2.jpg

  • Not So Strong Films pro 7 months ago
I've stated this earlier but I find this video to be a very interesting look at how the sounds in this film were created.

However, I find it disheartening that perhaps the only reason many people go to the movies nowadays (look at the incredible box office results for the movie) are because of shallow visuals or ideas purely on the surface. It seems the audience that these types of films are intended for, is one that does not require a good script or a script at all. Why not go on a roller coaster if you're looking for a similar reaction.

Now, I realize that i'm being completely subjective here when I explain that I do not enjoy this movie, but it's subjective by widespread consensus that not once in the series do majority of critics find it appealing. In fact, it's the opposite.

Do we simply wish to not "think so much" when attending the theatre? Is this our idea of escapism? Why can't we have both the thrills or intensity of a Michael Bay film, along with the intellect of a Scorcese picture? We can . . . and his name IS Martin Scorsese or Ridley Scott or Paul Thomas Anderson or the Cohen Brothers etc.

(Let's not also forget that Christopher Nolan has already been doing exactly what you ask for)

    BEHIND THE SPEAKERS!

    Very interesting.

By the way, American movies are full of action already. They better slow down their movies a little bit. They put in their movies so many delicate details yet you can not see any of them, becase the scenes are so short and everything moves so fast on the screen. The scenes are very crowded and fast moving. I like to see a city under attack but I don't like to see people always escape from exploding buildings. Let them die. That's more interesting. Sometimes, we want to see the aftermath of an accident or attack. Sometimes we just want to stop and see while an alien ship destroys a building. We just want to watch its every phase, not a few miliseconds of it. Are all the Americans hyperactive?

I couldn't watch Transformers 1 because my head ached.

Still, thanks for the video. It's always been interesting and inspiring to see how top professionals do their job.

PS. I'm happy the movie takes place on the Moon. I look forward to see the renderings of the Moon in 3D. I hope it will be like going there. But, are there any sound on the moon? You know, there's no atmosphere there and .... no sound there.
  • Not So Strong Films pro 7 months ago
I completely agree with you on the matter of hyperactivity in many american action epics.

If you look at the UK based production "Children of Men", if provides exactly what you're talking about.

As for the sound on the moon? I believe "2001" is still one of the only pictures to recognize that there is nothing to be heard in space. This does not include "Star Wars" of course ;).
  • Graham Donnelly plus 5 months ago
in response to the sound on the moon. Yes space is a vaccuum and doesn't carry audio, however a film is an experience and certain 'realistic' aspects are overlooked in the name of entertainment. I mean people going to see a movie about giant robots from space, can surely overlook that there was audio in the moon sequences, after all, audio in space is completely unbelievable, unlike the giant robots!

If you are looking for a really cool space scene with no audio and a true representation of space, then the latest Star Trek movie does a blinding job of this in the opening sequence and the scene where they are 'skydiving' to a planet. Nothing but the breathing of the characters and the wind moving their clothes when they enter the planets atmosphere is detailed, accurate and very entertaining.

  • Stephen Hauser 7 months ago
Neil Blomkamp, Christopher Nolan, The Coen brothers, Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg, David Fincher, Duncan Jones, Tony Scott, J.J.Abrams, Ridley Scott, M. Night Shyamalan, Danny Boyle, Quentin Tarantino, Poul Thomas Anderson, James Comeron and Martin Scorsese. They are all talented. Sure they specialize in different genres. But I think the fact of the matter is is that they are all legendary directors.
  • Not So Strong Films pro 7 months ago
You just dropped a large arsenal of great directors, it's a shame Michael Bay is included as one of them.
  • Stephen Hauser 7 months ago
Michael Bay is included. As you can see I left out a lot of the great ones like Francis Ford Coppola and Stanley Kubrick. If I had included all the great directors my comment would have been to long. I wanted to shorten it a little.
  • Not So Strong Films pro 7 months ago
I meant to say that Michael Bay shouldn't be included, but of course that is only a matter of opinion, good sir.
  • Stephen Hauser 7 months ago
I only included Michael Bay because he knows how to give a good adrenalin rush on a hot afternoon. You know the ones, the eye candy movies, the man does them really well. After all it's like being a plumber, some one has to do it. So why not give the job to a man why can do it like none other. The entertainment only films are like that, and in the end Transformers will sell the most tickets at the box office anyway.
  •
  • Great look into the making of a huge part of a gigantic blockbuster. Say what you will about Bay and the movies, they're made to be entertaining visual and audio feasts. There they certainly accomplish their goal and more so.

Despite the fact I make visuals, I can say visuals mostly are nothing without sound. Watch Transformers without sound, not quite good right ? Now close your eyes and just listen to some action, and let your imagination do the rest. Much more enjoyable that way. That's why I will always respect sound artists and composers.

It's so unfortunate that these amazing artist have to work on a Michael Bay film. Can we even call that film?

The utmost respect to all the people in post.
Jesus Michael Bay, what the heck goes through your mind?
    Travesty.
  • Cesar Cardoso 7 months ago
    whats your problem?
  • Evan Hadfield 7 months ago
I'm not a fan of Bay's ejaculatory exercises.

Perhaps Faulkner said it best in regards to Hemingway... "He has never been known to use a word that might send a reader to the dictionary." Just translate that into the world of film and you might get an idea of what I mean.
  • Stephen Hauser 7 months ago
Hey Even, I think what your problem is, is you just can't have fun at the movies. Transformers is a film made solely for entertainments sake. I am pretty sure Bay goes into the beginning of the pre-production process knowing that it is not going to be an Oscar worthy masterpiece. Hollywood produces all sorts of movies from all sorts of genres. For crying out loud not every film is going to be as intelligence as The Kings Speech. If all films were as smart as you are I think this would be a pretty dry world to live in, don't you think? We have the Martin Scorsese's and the Poul Thomas Anderson's to make us the intelligent films, and we have the Michael Bay's and the Stephen Sommers's for the pointless entertainment only films.
  • Evan Hadfield 7 months ago
    Mr. Hauser,
You know what happens when you assume... I most definitely know how to have fun at the movies. Machete for example, was an uproariously jaw dropping extravaganza, over the top in every way. However, Rodriguez's over the top was a breath of fresh air, whereas Bay's over the top is predictable and played out. Bay lost my attention after The Rock, and I was 12 at the time.
My apologies for preferring movies with more of an original flair.
And don't get me wrong, the sound design that's displayed in the clip above is nothing short than amazing. Yeah, that was a cool noise they used for the transforming in the first Transformers, but did they have to use EVERY time, and did Bay have to slow-mo EVERY time?
Stop jacking off Michael Bay, it's no longer epic if you do it every chance you get.
My apologies again for ranting. I'm not a Bay fan as I previously stated.
  • Not So Strong Films pro 7 months ago
    To Stephen Hauser,

I do not believe the word "pointless" should ever be used in the description of a film.

Every second of it, should contain purpose and motivation.
  • Stephen Hauser 7 months ago
There is no purpose or point to films like Transformers or G.I. Joe. They are just made for the hot summer afternoons so you can forget yourself and have a adrenalin ruse for about two hours. Then after that two hours you forget about that crazy movie you just saw.
  • Stephen Hauser 7 months ago
    Hey Evan Hadfield,

You are right I should not assume. I know nothing about you, and judging you over the enter net is wrong. I am sorry.
