Holiday clips from last year. I decided to re edit a few of the holiday clips from our trip to the States last year. Full of wobbly hand held nonsense but I only bought the camera (my first) three days before we set off so I had no idea what I was doing. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.
Music from Legends of the Fall.
Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, Grand Canyon, and Monument Valley, with Kay El Bar Ranch in Arizona to finish.

JVC HD7, FCP 6, no colour correction.

Nice! Looks like you had a great time. My goal is to finally get to Monument Valley in 2009, and shoot the heck out of it for a few days to get some nice dawn and sunset shots. It's so iconic from western films, I just have to go there.

I was in Zion in the late 70s, without a camera. I need to go back there too.

One other "must see" for me is Lone Pine California, another area where lots of westerns have been filmed, even the 1939 version of Gunga Din. Don't know if I can make it there next year or not.

BTW, I had searched for Monument Valley videos on Vimeo before, and I think you have the best footage here.

Thanks John, I had tons of footage but all of it very wobbly which is a real shame. Hey ho, you live and learn. No doubt we'll be back one day.

You need to get a slice of that Bumbleberry Pie from the Bumbleberry cafe at the far end of Zion. YUM!

Beautiful stuff Wayne. I've made this tour before and I love it, I have to do it again.

John, I live about 4 hours drive from Lone Pine and I enjoy it as well. I make 2 or 3 trips through there every year. Make sure to visit the museum there, lots of filmmaking history.

I think we went to Lone Pine when we went to the States a few years ago. Stayed nearby in Independence. (if it's the same Lone Pine you're talking about.

To visit Zion, Monument and Bryce, we stayed in Kanab which is a great little town itself to use as a base before heading down to the Grand Canyon.

I wish I'd had a camera for a few months or even weeks before I went to all these places last year, then at least I'd have known about the importance of a lightweight tripod!

I'm getting a hankering to get back there myself. For an Englishman, I feel very at home there.

    Thanks for dropping by guys.

    Hi Wayne,

sorry I ahve send my earlier comment to the wrong person but a great movie and great places which we will visit next April/May.
Music is also the right one.
To avoid to much moving use plugin from Mercalli from Prodad. this will stabilize.

    Wil
  • Wayne Avanson plus 1 year ago
That's OK Wil, I saw it there. Am currently taking your advice about the stabilisation, am using a plug in called SmoothCam and it seems to be doing a great job so far.
Check back in a couple of days to see the difference.

seems to work on most shots but not all. The really slow ones go all jittery so I've dumped it from those shots but mist are very good.

    Thanks for that

    Cheers

    Avey

Looks like a beautiful place Wayne.
    The colours look amazing.
Hey that wasn't bad videoing either considering you'd just got the camera!
  • Wayne Avanson plus 1 year ago
Thanks Tracy, and Happy New Year to you.

Some great vistas, there, almost as good as Lancashire. Not bad at all for a first shoot with that cam, and the footage at 3:10 looks just like Petra in Jordan (such a nice girl). Really nice to watch, except when it's January in the UK and I'm sobbing into my coffee cos I wanna go, too. You go away far too much, it simply isn't right.
  • Wayne Avanson plus 11 months ago
Aw stop moaning. When you're locked away in Cuba you STiLL won't be happy will you? It'll be all "oo, I can't see the sunrise from MY cell window'" and "oo, orange really isn't MY colour" At east you'll be abroad…

I don't think once a year with the old hard-earned is asking too much is it?

Petra says hi by the way. AND she says orange suits you.
  • Greg Wallis 11 months ago
    Orange DOES suit me :)

    looks like a steadicam at 3:14. :)
  • Wayne Avanson plus 11 months ago
Yeah Tom, I was very pleased with the effect of the smoothcam filter on nearly all these shots. You wouldn't believe how wobbly the shot was before hand. Couldn't use it on the slow motion shots as it turns all jittery.

This is a fantastic video Wayne! I have to make my way out west soon! I am really impressed on how well the smoothcam filter works!

  • Wayne Avanson plus 11 months ago
I was amazed too William. It doesn't work on slow motion footage, just jumps around too much, but overall it has 'saved' some really dodgy shots and made them watchable.

I wish we were going back sometime soon. I love the place.

Thanks for looking and have fun when you get out there!

  • Wayne Avanson plus 9 months ago
