On Thursday, June 2 Neighborhood Public Radio brought together local noise musicians and sound and performance artists to facilitate a live performance gesture exploring the ways in which we sonically experience indoor and outdoor spaces, and how sound informs our perceptions of our surroundings.
Approximately 100 guitarists occupied MOCA’s galleries and plaza; oscillating between moments of silence and moments of drone, these musicians performed an open-ended score that transmitted through amplifiers scattered around the museum as well as broadcast on local airwaves. Enveloping visitors in fuzz-tone that shifted in quality and intensity as they moved through space, the piece emphasized the physical sensation of live music, making sound waves almost tangible.
