In this episode, high school history teacher Lisa Parachini explains how her class used a social networking site to develop a deep understanding of America’s Founding Fathers... and mothers too. Each student took on the role of a historical figure and set up a homepage on the social networking site on behalf of that person. Students accepted or denied friends based on the figure’s allegiances, they posted blog posts and replied to others posts from the perspective of their figure, and they posted propaganda and images that were consistent with the message their historical figure would have spread. The students, real-life experiences with such sites as My Space and Face Book provided them with the back ground they needed to make this project not only rigorous, but relevant.
