Third animation for my Senior Exhibition Show:
I once heard the comedian George Carlin speaking about how he thought that the Earth is fine, explaining that the environmentalists have it all wrong. He said that the Earth is resilient and that the waste put forth by humans will not cause enough harm to put the Earth at risk. He went on to theorize that perhaps the Earth only needed humans to be here so that we would in turn create things like Styrofoam and plastic that it could not create on its own. And now that the Earth has it, perhaps it's trying to phase US out. Obviously what he said was a joke, but the thought stuck with me. Perhaps all the chaos on this earth has some hidden meaning. We just can't seem to see the whole picture. I took this idea into my animations and tried to portray what might seem like chaos at first, but it has a purpose if you step back and look at the whole picture. This chaos might be good or it might be bad depending on your point of view. It is the beauty or wonder at its ambivalence that interests me.
I would like to create characters that on the surface look fun and pleasing to the eye, yet could also be a bit disturbing or extremely odd at the same time. The intent of my animations is to have a depth behind them, yet at the same time appear to be simple. I often look at the work of other artists I enjoy and wonder how they came up with an idea for a piece. I hope that my work can inspire others in a similar fashion.
