See all Show me
One of my favorite parts about that movie is when you get to see Harold's 'mathematical' thought processes flying around him as he counts his steps and calculates things. Here's my quick little attempt at recreating the effect. It's not done very well at all.. it just helped me realize that the guys that did it for the actual movie are insanely good at what they do. It would be such tedious work to do this for an entire movie!I mean, in most of the shots the camera was actually moving! whew! Hats off S.T.F. cg team!

Wow! Great job. I only wish I was good enough to think that this wasn't done well.

    Love that movie, btw.

Nice work! I admired the effects in that movie as well, so I'm kind of in awe that you were able to recreate it.

Thanks! It's very doable. It's more on the tedious side of things than the hard to do side... My favorite part was when he figured out what percentage of soap was left in all of the dispensers in the bathroom. lol I'm wishing I had done that instead now.

Once again Dan, I love it. I LOVE this effect, it's been in a few commercials too.

    FEATURE LENGTH OF THIS PLEASE!
  • JD 1 year ago
Oh, and you're an after effects guy, right?
  • Dan Masquelier 1 year ago
yeah I'd love to work on some feature length footage.. I just can never seem to get together enough material for something like that. Guess I get too antsy to go back and edit stuff after I shoot haha

yup after effects is what I use. It would be cool to collab on something with you and your production team sometime, but your work is usually so well done that you probably won't ever need much post past timeline editing.

This is awesome! IS there motion tracking involved in this?
I say bring all the effects you can do together into an exciting 5 minute movie!
  • Dan Masquelier 1 year ago
thank ya, sir! Yes I motion tracked the side of my head (which turned out not to be the best place to track cuz there was no really defined point with my hair... thus the jumpiness you can see...) then moved the 'brush counter' comp's anchor to the side of my head.. I had to go through and manually do the orientation keyframes which kind of sucked, but it was only one keyframe for every 10 frames or so... I'm convinced if you want to do this cleaner, your subject shouldn't be moving around too much.. then there will be less jitter in the track..

JD and I were talkin the other day about collaborating on a project, so I might finally get some high-quality, longer playing footage to work with. So stay tuned!! haha
