Quite Inspiring. I just saw Urban Roots a couple weeks ago. Looks like adversity is pushing liberation through positivity in Detroit. Good work!!

Great video, I guess folks in detroit don't like helmets?
  • Helmets offer the illusion of safety while perpetuating a myth of danger.

I haven't seen any coverage like this yet. I'd noticed both the Eastside Riders and Corktown Cycles and was intrigued by them but didn't have the gumption to get their story, so thanks for doing it for me! Your doc was short and sweet but I think you guys did a good job of providing some range and scope to the current bike 'scene' in Detroit. Also there were some really interesting visuals and the soundtrack really added to it. Good work. Are you guys a part of some kind of film collective or production company? How did you end up finding the time/money to put this together, and why this topic?

Nicely done video with real meat to it, and I should know as I've been doing it all my life. Have a look at this one from Chicago with a different focus: etrikebikes.com

One thing that struck me when you talked about Detroit being a city of contracting population with underused streets is that there was no mention of working with the city for a more bike friendly ecology over-all. In Chicago which hasn't reached that situation yet, but will, we have a whole gridded network of bike lanes over the entire city (most share the lanes with cars), that the city has been expanding and reinforcing from the git-go. It's comprehensive and you are never more than 1/2 mile from a bike lane, usually 1/4 mile. In most cases, all it takes is some planning and a little paint.

I've been dreaming about the change that will come as cities' populations contract, where whole car lanes or parking lanes on multi-lane streets can be given over to exclusively bikes. Here in Chicago we have to plan for it, but in Detroit you have the opportunity to make it happen right now, with a real non-confrontational occupy action. And don't forget to include e-bikes, which as long as they stay within the Federal guidelines are still officially bicycles. They expand the potential population of bicyclists by a huge amount, and get those dusty bikes in garages everywhere out on the street for all ages.
