Canon 5D Mark II
First test footage with the Canon 5D Mark II. While pleased with the results of the camera, it felt a bit awkward at first especially trying to keep your eyes on the viewfinder hoping focus is achieved. Most of the night shots were hovering in the " is this going to be too noisy?" 1000 to 3200 ISO range maybe even 6400. All I can say is wow! The low light capabilities are stunning.
Canon Lenses used:
50mm 1.2
85mm 1.2
16-35mm 2.8
70-200mm 2.8
180mm 3.5 macro
Cheers!

Yes we used a IndieSlider Pro 36" for those shots. Works great with the 5D Mark II. We will soon be testing it out on our Steadicam Flyer rig - Cant wait for that! Hoping it's not too light.
indifocus.com/ is where we purchased the slider.
I look forward to the debut of your site. My Mark II is coming; hope I'll have something to contribute.
Hope you get your Mark II soon! We can definitely use some content on the website.

with the Mark 2D?
Debating between the D90 and the Mark 2D
is the Mark 2D worth the differences?
Video looks Great!
Hopefully the Jello Cam effect has nothing to do with it. Have not experienced it but have only shot with this once. Hopefully it wont start wiggling on me..
Go ahead for your project FB
bravo.

Excellent job, I live in Las Vegas and I wish I had the camera last week. Do you think Final Express will do the job. I just got and Imac 24 las week.
I downloaded the free MPEG Streamclips. (you can use Compressor) Transfered all the clips to a scratch disk - external hard drive with firewire 800 ( highly recommended). I dragged all the clips into MPEG Streamclip and batched convert all the files to XDCAM 1080P 30fps VBR. Takes awhile. After the clips are converted import them into Final Cut and edit with no issues at all. You can convert to ProRes 422 but your files will be huge.
What I love about this camera is that what you see in the viewfinder is what you get. A lot of clips in the video have no color correction and is straight from the camera. You will find that you will need to do only slight adjustments. After the project is rendered we exported via Compressor back to h264. - for web viewing. Export with Apple TV settings works great as well.
Looking forward to your continuing work!
Wow wonderful job man
I love the 1.47 scene.

great work. i love dolly moves and this climate change problem is making things interesting...
Can you explain the signs of shutter issues? Was this a problem in the beta testing? The tilt shot of the sign plays back choppy in vimeo maybe because of the 24fps I think. It's smoother in Smugmug. focalbliss.smugmug.com/gallery/6344935_9JMLR#440326657_kmMt5-A-LB
Hopefully it's not a big issue that Canon cant fix in a firmware update.
Thanks for your comment and btw, how's the surf? :)
btw, was that Vincent above in a disguised comment? :)
or someone just borrowing his footage?
One more precision ... In Streamclip, you say you used XDCAM 1080P 30fps VBR to convert... Hem... where is this option ? File export to... what ? Again, thanks for sharing !

Sorry if i'm going off topic and using your video for some technical help! Great video by the way.
EOS Utility keeps crashing half way through transferring video files. They are about 11 minutes in length at 1920x1080. I've had no problem transferring a whole cards worth of shorter 1 minute clips.
I'm on OSX 10.5.6., using EOS Utility 2.5.1. I'm using an 8GB SanDisk Extreme IV card. I'm on a 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB Ram Macbook Pro.
Has anybody else had this problem, or suggest what the issue may be? Is there a maximum file size limit? The manual doesn't mention this. I'd guess an 11 minute clip is about 3.5 GB. I've even tried reinstalling the EOS software and formatting the memory card with no luck.
Any help would be great, i'm pulling my hair out!
Jim
Now, I wish I had the ca$h to buy this gorgeous camera, but your eye and talent make it truly beautiful. Snow in Vegas is magical isn't it?! nicely done!! thanks
Then stop refocus and shoot again.
Also DSLR lenses don't focus to point blank close up like camcorder lenses unless you buy a macro lense. How close can the standard lense focus you used here?
Chris
In any event, check out what a friend of mine shot on the Nikon D90 with some friends: vimeo.com/2422919
DSLRs with vid capabilities will change everything.
And if you're the first, that would be significant and it'd be a hell of a story.
By the way, did I mention I was a screenwriter? :-)
You did a spectacular job at capturing Las Vegas in the snow!
imagery in a location that rarely sees snow. Stupendous indeed...i cannot imagine all the owners of the Mark II around the globe at the same place at the same time. What a video that will make also...
The video incidentally is terrific. I've been shooting professional HD since 2000 when we bought the first Panasonic HD camera sold in the world. This is terrific video! After shooting over 2000 hours myself, I think i have a clue of what's good and what aint. Nice work.
I just checked out your website. You do awesome work! I'll be happy to refer business to you. :)
i want an EOS 5D Mark II!!!!
