3. BOB
Make sure to watch the film past the credits, enjoy!

After running on over 100 festivals BOB finally reached Vimeo with his little running wheel. We would like to thank everyone who enjoyed the film, voted for us on festivals and gave us a laugh during the screenings. It's an incredible feeling to make people happy.

This was the first time we created an 3d animated movie during our studies at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg and we would have never thought that it became that successful.
There are a lot of things we would have done differently nowadays but for a small team, six months and almost no knowledge of the software, we are proud with the result and finally want to share it with everyone.

Credits:
BOB: Tom Zahner
student producer: Anna Matacz
director: Jacob Frey & Harry Fast
script: Jacob Frey & Stefanie Ren
character design: Harry Fast
lighting & rendering: Michael Lederhuber
music: Karol Obara
sounddesign: Marco Manzo

Exquisite, without question. A gem of an idea, brilliantly executed. I was moved by it.

But how sad anyone should have to be told to watch past the credits.

My sons and I sat rolling our eyes, perturbed, as a theatre full of people in front of us stood there and watched the ending of Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

I'm sure they all had better things to do than spend a few minutes reading even a few names (in your case very few) and perhaps pay tribute to those who entertained them so masterfully; affording them a moment of liberation from their otherwise treadmill lives.

But I'll tuck my box away now.

    :)

Thank you for all that went into the making of BOB.

Bless your efforts and your careers.

  • This is so brilliant and perfect. The story and how everything was cut is genius. I really enjoyed this piece (obviously by my comments). I like that it was short and you did a great job leading us to believe quite a bit. I'm still somewhat lost in the world and I LOVED how you ended it with a great twist.

Thanks for this and I'm looking forward to more of your work.

I was really digging it! Great animation!
But then I got to the "joke". HAW HAW. I get it Two males!
    Reeeaaalllly???
    A fag joke???!!
Thanks for externalizing your homophobic, adolescent, puerile humor. You've really lifted the bar. because you know, the world isn't harsh enough on young people who are GLBT. The next teen suicide is now partly your responsibility.
Go away, grow the fuck up, and create a new talented beautiful animation with a positive message for all your viewers.
    Craig Ayliffe
  • Frank Yannarella 3 months ago
    Craig...You are less than intelligent.
How about BOB was about a simple case of mistaken identity? It didn't have anything to do with your mistaken topic. Reeeeaaallllly?
    Get a clue!
If you would like to grow up, learn how to talk or become the next suicide...please feel free.
Either way maybe the viewers won't have to read stupid comments from a person like you, if you grow up or prove Darwin's survival of the fittest by not surviving!
  • Hannah Fabrizius 3 months ago
Frank, YOU are less than intelligent if you honestly think that BOB wasn't about finding out the hamster he was dying to meet was another male. And you're telling Craig to grow up when you are the one suggesting he become the next suicide. Really? That's one of most immature statements a person can make. Craig was bringing up a valid point: GLBT suicide is not something to take lightly and I really wish that people would stop doing the same tired, offensive jokes.
  • Craig Ayliffe 3 months ago
Exactly right, Hannah. This film is about a hamster trapped in a cage with another male (Bob).
This animation is awesome, these guys are super talented. It's the "payoff" that disturbed me. It is hurtful to GLBT Americans (and others) because it implies a lot of negative stereotypes.
    Here's a thought...
Imagine this, Bob introduces himself, and both hamsters smile, happy ending for both, nobody gets hurt, no implied dominate prison rape (hey, they are in cages after all) or whatever or made to feel uncomfortable.
And it's still funny but on a different level.
If that scenario is not funny for you, or you feel uncomfortable, then that is the very definition of homophobia and the implication that I am talking about.
But like ethnic humor, it's probably better to stick to what you know best and leave the gay jokes to the gays who tell it the best.
It is interesting to see that most of the positive comments come from industry people who participate in the technical aspects, not the creatives who fabricate the storyline. That is why everybody needs an editor.
Best of Success to the talented animators in future endeavors, but this short film needs a rewrite or it needs to be ash canned.
  • joe nunya 3 months ago
Not Necessarily Craig. If this scenario is uncomfortable to you it MAY be because you thought just like all the primitive heteros that this hamster was doing what all other species NATURALLY do and that is seeking out the female counterpart to PROCREATE. You call your reaction a reaction to something with a message that promotes a fear, phobia of your subculture, while it does not. What bothers those offended is that you want to destroy the natural assumptions that the joke is based on. Something that is not the author's responsibility. Of course you don't assign responsibility, only blame and roles. The assumed straight guys should keep to the jokes they are allowed by the PC police to make and "leave the gay jokes to the gays" who are of a protected class that can do/say as vile things as one can think of and it is revered. So much of the gay culture is deviant by design, but if you make a joke based on the obvious fact and you are responsible for some depressed kid killing himself. The fact is, everything on this planet is the product of the natural process of heterosexual sex/reproduction.....and that fact will always spotlight that gay lifestyle is a DEVIATION of this NORM. What you call a "phobia" is the built in reality of the lifestyle. It is a complete deviation of where we all come from. This is a fact, preacherman. Not hate.
  • Mike McGill 3 months ago
    Joe you nailed it...
  • Lorraine Buch 3 months ago
Exactly what's wrong with the world of gays. Hyper-sensitive and just EVERYthing is all about them, EVERY time. Lighten up, you idiot. The ending is exactly what was said above--a case of mistaken identity and not another reason for you to jump on your GD soap box.
