In 1997 Peter Glickstern, owner of the popular and "grimy" Liquid Bar in San Francisco's hip Mission District, beat and seriously injured three Latino immigrants with a crow bar who were drinking at his bar. The event confirmed the violence and racism attached to gentrification, especially after Glickstern was cleared of all charges, even after three immigrants were sent to the Emergency Room (the guy still runs bars in SF). Paul Flores wrote a poem about it and Reed Rickert made the video.
