Mancandy is soo happy about the Blender camera tracker. Now he doesn't have to use Syntheyes to take a ride through the mall. :)

That's fantastic! Blender gets better by the day. Is it time to start begging for builds, yet? :)

WOW. to good to be true.
But I'm curious how good is the blender camera tracker in comparison with Syntheyes or the Foundrys CameraTracker for AE because I was considering buying one of those to get started with matchmoving
  • Sebastian König plus 7 months ago
Well, it is an awesome and impressive first step, but right now it is nowhere where Syntheyes is. I don't know about The Foundry's tracker, but it can only be good.
The 2d tracker itself is similar to AFX. (not speaking of usage in compositing).
Syntheyes is still fast as speed of light and great in terms of usage. But I already found myself subconsciously trying to use blender's tracking shortcuts there... Blender just has a very special way of sneaking into your muscle-memory ;)

But even though there is lots of room for improvements the tracker already delivers surprisingly stable tracks, even with just a very rough or even without any calibration at all. It's a great playground!
So if you just start out doing matchmoving, it might be good enough. And it gets better with each day. Worth waiting what happens next! :)
