When the news reached me that protesters in Madison, Wisconsin, were gathering at the capitol to protest the budget repair bill and collective bargaining rights, my journalism blood of 21 years ago was triggered. I grabbed my gear and headed for Capitol Square. For several weeks children, young parents, the elderly, union members, and nonunion workers came together and spoke with one voice. The way I best know how to be a part of that voice is through video and photography. What inspires me most in my life's work are witnessing moments of compassion, particularly during times of trouble and unrest.
