What do you usually shoot on?
i realy enjoyed the timelapse footage, and
I was really impressed by some of the camera movements and how foreground and background ellements were used. (e.g.The train shot and the Down shot on the three bikers, and the pipes in the opening) really inspiring work. Congratulations

Hey Brian, thanks for the kind words! Yes, all of this is HVX footage. I haven't really messed with 16mm stuff in a while since film and processing is pretty expensive these days. I'd love to get back into shooting film if the right projects comes along though.

Wow, good job man, you really have the eye for beautiful shots! I have seen dozens of reel shot on HVX and yours blew me away! The grading is also very interesting in a lot of shots. It would be nice to see you moving on to more narrative images... You are very talented! (how old are you by the way?)

Thanks Iouri, I appreciate the compliments. I loved your director reel. Really nice DOF and colors on all of your shots. What kind of mini 35 rig and lenses do you use? You have some very nice clean shots on your reel.

I am 28 and I've mostly just shot BMX, skateboarding, and some music videos at this point, but I'm hopefully going to be working on some narrative projects soon.

Hey Will, Thanks for your good words! In my opinion, its much harder to have a nice reel when you shoot without 35mm adapter, thats why yours is so nice! I do have a nice rig; Redrock 35mm adapter, redorock follow focus, nice set of fast nikon primes (24mm f2, 35mm f2, 50mm f1.4, 85mm f2, 105mm f2.5) and a nice cavision matte box... oh and a 8" on camera hd monitor.

After seeing this reel a couple of times it really looks like the video is based around the song, and to create such a perfect harmony between the song and video is just amazing.

I keep watching this, it's absoutlely amazing. Some seriously awesome footage and so many nice looking scenes, it fits so well with the song. Really liking the dakota roche 180 clip where the pigeons fly past! Was that luck? It came out really well either way. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Alex, glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah, Dakota's 180 clip in Barcelona with the pigeons was complete luck. At first I thought the clip was ruined while I was filming and then after watching the clip I realized that it would probably be my favorite clip that I would ever film since the pigeons flew through at the perfect time. I'll take it though.....haha.

Really liked the "not a scratch" comment that is in the Levis Trailer & Video between shots of that trick - shows how well you catch unplanned moments too. Also, really liked the first version of your Electronical trailer - any chance you could load a HD version? The shaky spine clip inspired us for part of our video vimeo.com/1338143

Thanks Hugh, glad you liked the Levi's trailer. The "not a scratch" comment worked perfect and was pure luck that I caught it. Unfortunately, the Electronical trailer HD version was lost when one of my hard drives crashed last year so I have no way to upload that. Also, I have no idea what song that was either. I'll see if I can dig that info up for you.

Thanks Viktor. For the color correction I used a plug-in called Magic Bullet and Looks Suite. They allow you add all kinds of film and color effects to individual clips. I highly recommend checking them out.

Thanks for the kind words Alex, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I guess my advice would be to find any camera you can and just start shooting as much as possible. Review your footage and figure out what looks good and what doesn't and learn from your mistakes. So just keep shooting and keep a positive attitude!
